Android 3.0 Tablets Could Arrive at CES 2011

DigiTimes has reported that Android 3.0 tablets could arrive as early as as December. The models arrive will just be samples in preparation for launch at CES 2011 that goes ahead early in January.

Archos 70 7 Inch Android Tablet

Archos looks set to be launching another new Android based tablet. This time the tablet will be called the Archos 70 and will run the Android 2.2 operating system. The tablet has a 7 inch screen that has a resolution of 800 by 480 pixels.

The processor inside runs at 1GHz and is a Cortex A8 processor that also utilises a graphics accelerator. [Read more…]

Angry Birds for Android Racks up 2 Million Downloads

The Android Angry Birds download is proving to be popular as another 1 million Android users have downloaded the game since we reported yesterday that 1 million downloaded it over the weekend.

The Android version of the game isn’t available through the marketplace yet as its still being finalised in development, but the download you get from GetJar is free and allows you to play the full game with an almost final version of the game. When the final version does launch officially, users will be charged to get the game the usual way if they choose to get the full version. [Read more…]

Android 3.0 Gingerbread Details Emerge

Phandroid managed to get some details on the next version of Android. The new version is believed to be Android 3.0 with the codename Gingerbread. New features include cleaner icons and a more simplified look along with the ability to make video calls.

One of the things Google [GOOG] is believed to be working on is the integration of apps. Rather than being separate, the apps will be more integrated and be classed as an extension to the OS rather than something tacked on. [Read more…]

Google Android 4.0 Could be Called Ice Cream

Android 3.0 is believed to be called Gingerbread and has a release date of any time between now and Christmas. In fact, the SDK is expected to land this week. We have also heard rumors of Android Honeycomb and today, we hear that the version after that could be called Ice Cream.

The Ice Cream Android 4.0 version details came from the ARM President, Tudor Brown who said that Ice Cream would follow Gingerbread, which would have an interim update called Honeycomb and then a major version, 4.0, called Ice Cream. [Read more…]

HTC Gratia Android Smartphone Unveiled

The HTC Gratia was revealed earlier today. The Gratia is an Android based smartphone. It has a 3.2 inch screen that is in a HVGA format. It has a 600MHz Qualcomm processor and can connect to HSPA and WCDMA networks running at 900 and 2100.

It is believed that the HTC Gratia is a European version of the HTC Aria as it looks similar in design and specs. Other features of the new Android smartphone include Android 2.2 as well as a 5 megapixel camera. The Android 2.2 is also modified with HTC Sense. [Read more…]

Android Angry Birds Download Now Available

Angry Birds for Android has finally landed. We heard earlier this week that it might have been delayed a week or two and then heard again yesterday that it was on track for this week. We now see that Rovio managed to get it out on time.

The game can be downloaded from here and although it says it’s still a demo, you’ll actually find that it is the full version but with some ads. A few last bugs are being ironed out in the game and once they are complete, the game will be made available in the Android Market if you wish to download the ad free version. [Read more…]

Opera Mobile for Android Coming Soon with Pinch to Zoom

Opera is launching the Opera Mobile Browser for Android smartphones within the next month. The new browser will launch with pinch to zoom on Android with more features being added over time, such as hardware acceleration.

Pinch to zoom, if you are not familiar with it, allows users to zoom in to a webpage at incremental levels while pinching or pulling their fingers apart on the screen. This allows users to quickly zoom in to an appropriate level rather than a pre-programed level to read text more easily. [Read more…]

Android Angry Birds Could Launch This Week

Earlier this week it was reported that the Android version of Angry Birds could possibly be delayed another week or 2 for various reasons. It now appears that this is not the case and that Rovio could have the game out by the end of this week (ie, tomorrow).

The Angry Birds Beta for Android version proved to be very popular with over 1 million people downloading it. It certainly looks to be another hit for the Android platform and Rovio. [Read more…]
