Some reports from a retailer in the UK indicate that Windows Phone 7 sales have been disappointingly slow accounting for just three percent of the companies sales.
The figure reveals that Android devices are selling at about 15:1 compare to WP7 and when compared to Symbian^3, that ratio is 3:1 in favor of Symbian^3 on the one handset. [Read more…]
The Sony Ericsson X8 came with just Android 1.6 installed. Sony Ericsson has now announced that Android 2.1 is beginning to roll out to the smartphone although it is going out in various stages rather than all at the same time.
It seems that the Android 2.1 is being delayed again for the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10. This time it’s for those users who own it on the AT&T network in the US.
XDA-Developers has managed to confirm that the next version of Android will be Android 2.3 and not 3.0. The 2.3 update is also known as Gingerbread.
In an interesting interview with Pocket-Lint, HTC has indicated that if Windows Phone 7 and Android do not offer the freedom that HTC wants, they could look at other options. Those options could include HTC creating its own OS.
The original Motorola DROID could be set to get an OTA update for Android 2.2.1. The 2.2.1 is not a major update (AKA Gingerbread), but instead is believed to bring a few minor bug fixes to the smartphone.
Some rumours are floating about at the moment hinting that the Android 2.3 Gingerbread release date could be as soon as December 6. Reasons for thinking this is that recently, Eric Schmidt said that Google Android Gingerbread would be available within weeks.
Dell is now selling the Dell Streak pre-installed with the Android 2.2 operating system as standard. The new offerings fall in line with the OTA update that is currently being pushed out to current Dell Streak users in Europe with the US to follow.

Sony has announced that it will be launching a couple of new reader apps. One is being built for Android OS based smartphones and the other is being built for iOS based devices. Each version of the app will be launching next month in time for Christmas.
Dell Streak users are currently getting the Android 2.2 update finally. While this rolls out, Pocket Lint managed to get hold of a Streak running the latest Android 2.2 update to check out if it brings anything good to the 5 inch tablet.
