Android 2.3 Gingerbread UI Video Accidentally Released

On November 23rd, Google in HK released a video of the Android 2.3 Gingerbread user interface. The video has since been pulled after it started hitting the blogs yesterday, but thankfully another was put up in its place.

The video first shows the Google App on the iPhone but then moves on to Android 2.3 and shows over a minute of video captured professionally. HTC to Focus on Android while Watching Tablet Market

HTC VP Jack Tong has recently spoken about the company plans for smartphones and tablets. In regards to tablets, right now they are watching the competition and are thinking of entering the market. When speaking of the iPad he believes that sales of those tables have affected laptops/desktops more than they have smartphones.

Dell Streak on AT&T Android 2.2 Update Arrives

The Dell Streak tablet has recently been getting updated to Android 2.2. The roll-out started out for customers who purchased the tablet without a contract. We now hear that those on the AT&T network in the US are now beginning to receive the new Android 2.2 update.

Archos Tablets Android 2.2 Froyo Update

Archos has announced that a good number of its Android tablets will be getting an update to Android 2.2 (Froyo) shortly.

Android 2.x Most Popular on Android Smartphones

The latest numbers at Android Developers reveal that Android 2.x is still growing strong on Android smartphones. The numbers now reveal that Android 2.1 accounts for 39.6 percent while Android 2.2 has risen to 43.4 percent.

As expected, Android 1.5 and 1.6 continues to die down with 1.5 taking 6.3% and 1.6 taking 10.6 percent. [Read more…]

Google Reader App for Android Released

Google [GOOG] has launched a new Google Reader app for Android. Previously users had to rely on the web based version on their smartphone, but now a full app, self-contained, is now available.

Android Angry Birds Hits 7 Million Downloads

Angry Birds for smartphones on the Android platform seems to be catching up with iOS installs. So far, the game has been download 7 million times to Android handsets.

On iOS based devices, that number was at 10 million on the last announcement which means the game is fast reaching 20 million downloads across both platforms. [Read more…]

Android Gingerbread and Honeycomb Builds Seen on Nexus One

Some information has been spotted about the next two version of the Google [GOOG] smartphone operating systems. The next version, expected next week, is Android 2.3 AKA Gingerbread. Following that we hear that it’s Honeycomb or Android 3.0 in number terms.

The information was gathered from AIRBench who gathers information on benchmark tests on various phones. It appears that some users who are testing the operating systems have been using this service to record scores. Android App Content Ratings Go Live

When developers create apps or games for Android, they are now required to submit them with a content rating.

The four content ratings are as follows… All, Pre-teen, teen, mature.

“To prepare for this launch, starting next week, developers submitting new or updated applications will be required to include a rating for all applications and games uploaded onto Android Market. In addition, developers will have the next several weeks to add a rating to their existing applications and games. Once content rating is visible to users, any applications or games that do not include a rating will be treated as “Mature”.”

Apple [AAPL] recently published its app store submission guidelines that allowed developers to see exactly what the rules are to get an app published in the app store.
