LG Optimus 2X Dual Core Android Smartphone Announced

LG has announced the LG Optimus 2X. The Optimus 2X runs a 1GHz dial-core processor (NVIDIA Tegra 2) and has a 4 inch WVGA screen. Other features include 8GB of memory that can be expanded a further 32GB by using a microSD card.

On the back is an 8 megapixel camera and on the front, a 1.3 megapixel camera. HDMI mirroring is available on this device and it is capable of playing 1080p MPEG-4/H.264 content. [Read more…]

Swiftkey Android Keyboard HD Released

TouchType has upgraded its Android keyboard app and has now given it HD graphics. The new HD layout allows it to function better on larger screen devices such as those with 4 inch and above screens and specifically, the Samsung Galaxy Tab.

Facebook for Android Update Brings Integrated Chat and Push

The Facebook app for Android has received an update. What the update brings to Android smartphones is the ability to chat with friends with the integrated chat service. Also, push notifications have been added to the app.

The Dell Streak Android 2.2 update has been appearing across various networks over the last few weeks. We now hear that for those with a Dell Streak on the O2 network, you’ll be getting the update by the end of this week. No specific day has been provided though.

Nook Android 2.2 Update Release Date is January 2011

We have heard reports today saying that the Nook Color will be getting an Android 2.2 update sometime next month. The Android 2.2 update appears that it makes the device more tablet than eReader.

Google Update the Android Market

For those of you running Google Android 1.6 and above, the company has now updated the Android Market to a new version. This new version brings a few new features that helps you to purchase apps more easily although it’s not rolled out to all devices just yet. The release will be happening over the coming weeks.

With a focus on improving discoverability and merchandising, we’ve introduced a new carousel on the home and category screens. Users can quickly flip through the carousel to view promoted applications and immediately go to the download page for the application they want. Developers have been very active in creating great Widgets and Live Wallpapers. To make it easier for users to find their favorites, we’re introducing two new categories for Widgets and Live Wallpapers. Applications that include Widgets and Wallpapers will be automatically added to those new categories.

YouTube 2.1 for Android Released

Google [GOOG] has launched version 2.1 of the YouTube app for Android based smartphones. This new version takes YouTube out of the Android build allowing the app to be updated when needed rather than updated each time Android increases a version.

The new app also brings a number of new features such as in-page playback, posting comments, subscription updates as well as a full screen UI.

The aim of YouTube 2.1 for Android is to mirror the desktop version on smartphones. [Read more…]

Motorola 10-Inch Android 3.0 Tablet Photos

Although we’ve seen the Motorola Tablet demoed by Andy Rubin last week, at that time we only got a brief view of the tablet with no specifics as to how it looks. Some new pictures have been sent in to Engadget that show the tablet a little more closely although mr Blurrycam took the pics, so don’t expect anything too spectacular.

What we do see is that a webcam is located in the bezel at the top along side a Verizon logo. The name of the tablet isn’t known at the moment but it could be either Stingray, Everest or Trygon. [Read more…]

LG Optimus One Android 2.3 Update Announced

This week, LG has confused a few people in regards to the LG Optimus One getting the Android 2.3 update. The first post was found on Facebook about it where LG said that Gingerbread wasn’t compatible due to the Optimus One processor being 600MHz, but Gingerbread required 1GHz.

Someone stepped in on Twitter and said there were no hard limits. LG then apologized and said they hadn’t received the documentation from Google [GOOG] so couldn’t officially comment. [Read more…]

Gmail Priority Inbox for Android Rolls Out

Google [GOOG] has improved the Gmail app for Android OS devices. The latest version now supports priority inbox as well as an improved compose mail function.

The new version is called Gmail for Android 2.3.2. The priority inbox section of the app allows you to see those emails that matter most to you. These are highlighted with a small yellow arrow, just like the desktop version, and you have the option to mark emails as more important or not important. You can then click Priority to filter out the non important emails. [Read more…]

Gingerbread Launcher App for Android 2.2 Now Available

Android 2.3 was announced a few days ago, and pushed out to the Nexus One that very same day. However, any other Android device will need to wait a little longer as Google is yet to push out the requirements and documentation to device manufacturers.

With that in mind, you can actually now download what’s called the Gingerbread Launcher on your Android 2.2 device. What this does is brings the UI to the Android 2.2 operating system. Of course, a lot of features are missing but what you do get is the basic skin so you can see how it will look when you eventually get the 2.3 update pushed out to you. [Read more…]
