Google-Maps-NavigationEarlier today we posted about Google Maps Navigation. The navigation program is free for Android 2.0 based devices and could potentially be a more popular option than the other free satnav software available from a few companies. We just came across the official video showing a tutorial of exactly what the software is capable of doing.

As mentioned on the video (below) the Google Maps Navigation features voice guidance and turn by turn navigation which is exactly what is required on Android based phones. [Read more…]

HTC Desire Spotted

htc-desireThe HTC Desire was recently captured on camera for what seems to be the first time. The Desire was first spotted about 7 weeks ago early in September where all the information that was available there referred to it as a HTC Desire 6200. Also back then it was also indicated that it would be an Android based phone.

The photograph capturing the HTC Desire does confirm that it is indeed an Android based phone. The phone is branded by Verizon and is said to be a very similar size to the HTC Hero. A close look at the picture shows that there could be the usual trackball in the middle towards the bottom of the phone along with 2, possibly 6 hard buttons which I assume is send/end calls for 2 of them along with a Home button, menu, back and search possibly. It seems like the leaked shots of 6.5.1 might actually be absorbed in to Windows 7 or perhaps we are looking at 6.5.1 (it is a little unclear it seems at the moment). But whatever we are looking at looks that a fancy new finger-friendly version is on it’s way.

When looking at the comparisons below the images on the top are Windows Mobile 6.5 version with the ones below being 6.5.1 or V7. [Read more…]

Smartphone Flash Player – HD Flash for all but iPhone

Flash-for-SmartphonesAdobe have unveiled Flash 10.1 and the great news is that all content by Adobe will work on Smartphones (except for the iPhone). This means that if you have a Windows Phone, Android, Symbian, WebOS or Blackberry then sometime in 2010 you’ll be able to access flash content on your phone.

Flash 10.1 will also be compatible with smartbooks, netbooks, PC’s and other internet-connected devices. If you have an iPhone then you wont be in luck due to limitations in the OS that prevent it from working correctly still. However, PCWorld point out that the iPhone is already hugely popular with users and already has some great multimedia and gaming content available. Apple should work more to allow Flash 10.1 to be compatible though as this new version does push the boundaries a little by adding multitouch as well as being able to detect screen orientation. Gesture based controls are also built in to the new system. [Read more…]

Motorola Tao Pictures

TaoOver on Howard Forums some pictures of the new Motorola Tao have apparently been shown. The Motorola Tao was previously known as the Sholes and Shules and runs the Google Android OS. The phone is predicted to be a dual-band CDMA phone that is powered by a 1390mAh battery. A screen resolution of 480 x 854 pixels will be found on a screen measuring 3.7 inches.

The camera on the Motorola Tao will be 5 megapixels and input will be either by the touchscreen and QWERTY keyboard. The phone is built of a metal construction making it slightly heavier than the average phone, but from what we have seen in the pics is looks fantastic.

Take a read of the thread over at Howardforums to get an idea of what’s coming up. It might take a while to read the 58 pages and counting, but there’s some interesting stuff in there mixed in with regular comments. [Read more…]

Huawei 3G Wireless Router

Huawei-3G-Wireless-RouterHuawei make a number of 3G dongles primarily found in a USB port on the side of a laptop or netbook computer. They have now created the E5 that can be used as a portable 3G wireless router by converting your 3G mobile phone signal and routing it over wi-fi to a wireless connected laptop.

As it uses wireless to transmit the signal it can be used as a wireless hotspot for a few people when on the move. OhGizmo mention that this is the worlds first 3G dongle to achieve this although wireless tethering is possible on rooted Android phones as well as other devices. But, having a device specifically designed for this purpose could come in handy as wireless tethering on the Android is just computer to phone rather than several computers to phone which the E5 allows.
