Sony S2 Dual-Screen Android Device with 5.5 Inch Displays Leaked

Last week we saw details of the Sony S1 Playstation certified tablet. That particular tablet is will run Android Honeycomb and also will play Playstation games. It has a 9.4 inch screen.

We now hear that Sony also plan to launch a clamshell version similar to the S1. This second device is called the Sony S2 and is said to have two screens that are each 5.5 inches in size. The S2 is odd in shape in that it’s more of a cylinder when closed. However, it does run similar specs to the S1 which means it will include a Tegra 2 SoC as well as WiFi and 3G connectivity built in. [Read more…]

New Toshiba Android Honeycomb Tablet Could be the Antares

At CES earlier this year, Toshiba unveiled a new Android 3.0 Honeycomb tablet. When it was first unveiled, it ran Android 2.2 as no Android 3.0 OS was available for demonstration.

We know a lot of the specs on this device such as it having an NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual core CPU along with a 10.1 inch screen with a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels. We also know that the battery is removable and that there’s a HDMI port and USB port. [Read more…]

Android Gets a 3rd Party Windowed Interface

Ixonos is a Finnish company that is in the process of designing and building an interface for Android 3.0 tablets. The new interface is designed to bring a windowed approach to the tablet that allows users to move apps around in windows on the screen.

This new interface brings a familiar desktop feel to tablet computers allowing, for example, the mail app to be opened and resized in a window on the left of the screen, while the right side of the screen could house a browser. You’re not just restricted to two windows either as windows can be dragged and resized and put any where on the screen, as well as overlapping each other like found on a desktop. [Read more…]

The roadmap for smartphones built by Dell has leaked, thanks to WPCentral.

What we learn is that several new devices will be launching this year, and to add to that roadmap, we see that two of them will be running a new version of Google Android that hasn’t been formally announced just yet. That is Android Ice Cream. [Read more…]

Acer ICONIA TAB A500 Android 3.0 Tablet Unveiled

We’ve seen many Android 3.0 Honeycomb tablets being unveiled this week and if you thought that would be the end of it for a while, then think again as there are still many more to come. The next to be announced is the Acer ICONIA TAB A500. The ICONIA TAB is another Android 3.0 Honeycomb device that will launch in the coming months.

Acer has given the A500 a 10.1 inch screen. The screen of course, is capacitive, allowing easy interaction with the Honeycomb operating system. FlexT9 Virtual Keyboard for Android Launches

The FlexT9 is a virtual keyboard for Android smartphones. It has four ways to input data in to the phone which includes voice input powered by Dragon.

The four input methods include Speak: which allows you to say something along the lines of “text fred: whatever you want to say”. This function is said to be reliable.

The next input is Trace: that appears to be very similar to how Swype works in that you trace your finger over the keys. Next it’s the Write method that allows you to scribble letters and numbers down that are recognised and converted to text. Finally, you have the regular tap type keyboard where you can enter text the usual way. [Read more…]

MapQuest is a service I haven’t used for a few years. However, I see they are still in the game in that they have now just released an Android App that is available free for download in the Android Market.

The MapQuest App allows another option for turn-by-turn navigation on Android based devices. Other features include voice search, walking and driving directions, live traffic, voice guided directions and points of interest. [Read more…]

Dell Streak 10 Will Run Android 3.0 Honeycomb At Launch

Dell has confirmed that when the Dell Streak 10 tablet launches, it will run the Android 3.0 Honeycomb operating system. What we also learn is that Dell intend to use a degree of the same hardware that will also run a Windows OS.

For tablets, it’s Android Honeycomb and Windows, and we have customers with a preference for either one. We can create platforms that share a great degree of hardware commonality that can run both — or either — operating system, and we don’t see any other options that are worthy of consideration.

Android Market Now has 150,000 Apps Available for Download

Over at MWC, Google announced that the Android Market now has 150,000 apps available for download. This amount is triple what it was 9 months ago when developers had collectively submitted 50,000 apps in total.

Numbers were estimated at recently to be around the 200K mark, although it turns out that this was a slight over estimate. However, 150,000 apps is still a good achievement. [Read more…]

HTC Revolver Android 3.0 Smartphone Leaked

The HTC Revolver was leaked yesterday and from what we can gather, it will be the first smartphone to run the Google Android 3.0 Honeycomb OS. Although Android 3.0 was designed for the tablet, Google has commented that it isn’t restricted to tablets only and that other form factors will also be able to use it.

Although the picture might of course be fake, ie: the confidential plastered all over it doesn’t make it look any more “secretive”, if true, it will have some fairly decent specs inline with what we are seeing appear from HTC at the moment. [Read more…]
