The HTC Ace was first spotted on a roadmap leak of UK phone launched a few weeks back. We now hear that the HTC Ace could be called the HTC Desire HD and include some decent specifications. We also hear that the HTC Desire HD could launch in October this year.

The specs of the new HTC Desire HD (if true of course) show that it has a 4.3 inch WVGA touchscreen. An 8 megapixel camera, 1GHz Qualcomm (Snapdragon?) processor, Android 2.2 Froyo, HD 720p video capture and 4GB of internal memory. [Read more…]

Samsung Galaxy S a Smart Move

True iPhone Competitor

Samsung have a great phone here, and an even greater opportunity to take a bigger chunk of the prosperous smartphone market, especially with current issues the iPhone 4 users are experiencing.

Straight out of the box the first thing we notice is the phone is lightweight and slim with more than decent build quality, I have read others compare it to the iPhone 3GS in feel and look but I’d have to disagree and say that’s like comparing the design of a wood encased Atari to the all black plastic design of an Atari 2600, they’re not as close in looks as they are in function, and while the original Atari was new, sleek, and modern at its release, the 2600 was clearly a better design and very up to date.

Turning on the Galaxy S is easy, there are really only two options, a small control button on the right side of the phone which would have been better placed on top beside the sliding USB port door, or what appeared and eventually turned out to be, the rocker type volume control on the left. Once the initial wallpaper appears there’s a moment similar to the recent Staples commercials advertising low prices, ‘Whoa! That’s a crisp image!, while the iPhone 4 may cram in the most pixels per square inch of screen realty it does not match the vivid quality of the Samsung AMOLED equipped Galaxy S. [Read more…]

T-Mobile Garminfone Price Slashed

T-Mobile has dropped the Garminfone down $70 which takes the price on contract down to $129.99. To get the satnav phone at that price you still need to sign up for a two year agreement with T-Mobile though.

Yair Reiner, an analyst, recently calculated that only 20,000 Garminfones had been sold which isn’t a lot compared to the success of various Android handsets and the iPhone 4.

Hopefully the price drop will get a few more people interested in the device as so far, it hasn’t done well at all. We first tested a Garminfone back in April 2009 and it suffered a lot of delays which turned a good phone in to something not realy wanted by the time it came out it seems. [Read more…]

HTC 1 Concept Shows Minimal Controls

The HTC 1 is a concept Android smartphone designed to have minimal controls.

The concept designer Andrew Kim has designed the HTC 1 to be a premium Android device. It is designed to use machined brass to add strength to the phone. The brass is coated in Silver to give it a sleek finish.

The HTC 1 can stand up it’s self although the kick stand used isn’t added to the back of the device. Instead the end silver part of the phone rotates around when needed and falls back in place when using the phone for calls and texting etc… [Read more…]

When logging on to Fring today you may have noticed that Skype contacts are gone as well as the small square login box for Skype found on the Add-Ons menu. [Read more…]

Samsung Vibrant (Galaxy S) Could Launch July 15 on T-Mobile

Earlier today we mentioned that the Samsung Captivate was landing on AT&T [T] in the US on July 18. The Captivate is a Galaxy S phone re-branded for the AT&T network. Likewise, the Samsung Vibrant is also a Galaxy S phone but T-Mobile branded. However, the T-Mobile version seems to be launching a few days earlier on July 15.

The original date for T-Mobile was July 21, which means the new release date is almost a week earlier than originally planned.

If the change of launch date does happen, it will land on the same day as the Motorola DROID X which indicates that Samsung / T-Mobile are trying to put an alternative option in the way of potential DROID X buyers. [Read more…]

Fring Brings Face to Face Video Calling on iPhone 4

Fring has updated it’s iPhone 4 app to allow 2 way video calling on the iPhone 4. What makes this update stand out is the ability to use Fring to do 2 way video calls from the iPhone 4 to other devices over 3G or WiFi.

Features include…
