Samsung Epic 4G Launching August 11 at Sprint

The Samsung Epic 4G is rumoured to be arriving at Sprint as early as August 11. The information is found in what BGR refer to as the “Sprint playbook” where other information also indicates that stores will be opening up at 8am that day.

The launch of the Samsung Epic 4G jumps in just before the BlackBerry Torch 9800 and the DROID 2.

Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Arriving at AT&T This Month

AT&T [T] could be getting the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 towards the end of this month. The information comes from details emailed to Engadget that reveal the dealers price on the X10 as well as a few other phones.

The Sony Ericsson X10 is a fairly decent smartphone although it does lack in that it runs Android 1.6 and now 2.1 or above, and the battery lasts just a few hours rather than over a day unless you manually tweak and remove software that automatically runs. [Read more…]

Amazon UK Kindle Store Open Today

The Amazon Kindle in the UK is now taking pre-orders. With that in mind, we now see that Amazon has opened up the UK Kindle Store allowing Kindle owners to buy books from the UK based website rather than the US site.

The new UK Amazon Kindle store already has more than 400,000 books to download including most of the sort after books. Including New Releases and Bestsellers, from UK authors including Terry Pratchett, Ian Rankin, Martina Cole, Sophie Kinsella and Ken Follett.

The UK Kindle Store can be accessed now and books can be downloaded to your current Kindle, or to any device you have that runs the Kindle software such as the iPad, iPhone and Android based devices. [Read more…]

Vonage Mobile Facebook App Lets you Call Friends on Facebook

Vonage has launched a new iOS and Android OS based app that integrates with Facebook allowing calls to be made between friends who use the service.

When launching the app you need to log in to your Facebook account within the app and once done, you get a list of friends who are also using the Vonage app. If they are active in the system you can place a VoIP call to them by just tapping on their name. [Read more…]

Samsung Tablet Could get Dual-touch Features

Samsung has filed a patent that details a device with dual-touch features. What this means is that the screen on the front will be touch-sensitive as normal, but also that the back of the device will integrate touch.

The patent shows all the details and describes the system as a ‘Mobile terminal having dual touch screen and method of controlling content thereinĀ.

If implemented on a tablet device it would allow users to hold the device and control functions on screen by sliding fingers across the back of the device. [Read more…]

Motorola 10 Inch Tablet Hinted on Verizon

Some rumours going around today indicated that Motorola is launching a 10 inch tablet soon. The tablet will use Android for the operating system and have a 10 inch screen.

Other features include Adobe Flash support (we assume that means the Motorola Tablet will run Android 2.2), along with two cameras (front and rear facing), mobile hotspot functionality and access to pay TV. [Read more…]

Motorola Glam Hits Korea

Motorola is launching the Motorola Glam this month in South Korea. The new phone runs Android 2.1 and has a 3.7 inch screen that uses capacitive touch and is multitouch. It has a decent resolution of 854 x 480 pixels.

On the back is a 5 megapixel camera along with a dual LED flash to light subjects in dark lighting conditions.

For connectivity it has Bluetooth 2.1+EDR and we assume WiFi although this isn’t specifically mentioned. [Read more…]

myTouch 3G HD Rendering Appears Again

Another shot (rendering) of the myTouch 3G HD has arrived. This time, it shows the back of the device. Last time (yesterday), the front of the device was seen.

Not much is known about the smartphone other than it’s a HSPA+ phone that will work on the T-Mobile network. We also believe when launched, it will run Google Android for the OS. [Read more…]

LG Windows Phone 7 Devices Arriving This Year

LG has confirmed again that a Windows Phone 7 smartphone is due to arrive in September. The new smartphone is to be called the Pacific (not fully confirmed – and not the device pictured above). It is expected that more WP7 devices from LG will also arrive later this year in the initial roll out stages of Windows Phone 7.

“We have a deep relationship with Microsoft so expect to have a couple by the end of this year,” said LG rep Ken Hong in Seoul on Wednesday. But LG will also commit resources to other phone operating systems, including Android and other Linux-based platforms, Hong said.

New Amazon Kindle Announced – Two New Models

Amazon has launched two new 6 inch Kindle models.

The two new Kindle models are the 3G version and the Wi-Fi only version which cost $189 and $139 respectively. Each are 21 percent smaller than before and 15 percent lighter. Page turns have been improved by 20 percent and the battery life lasts up to one full month between charges.

Double the storage has been included and the screen has 50 percent better contrast than the previous models. [Read more…]

Dell Streak Price Spotted

The Dell Streak price was briefly shown on the Dell site earlier today although Dell has since pulled the page off line.

While the page was up, the pricing for the Streak showed a cost of $299.99 on a two year contract with AT&T [T] with a price tag of $549.99 off contract.

With Dell pulling the page from it’s site, there is a slim chance it could be changed closer to the release date (which is any day now we believe). However, we think the prices will probably stick. [Read more…]

HTC Super LCD Display to Be Used on Some Smartphones

HTC has announced that Super LCD (SLCD for short) will be added to it’s portfolio of smartphones. Two particular smartphones that will start using the new screen technology include the Nexus One and the HTC Desire later this summer.

The SLCD display offers an exceptional natural balanced colour, clear contrast, broad viewing angles and improved power efficiency.

“HTC is experiencing high-demand for many of our phones, specifically our phones with 3.7 inch displays. The new SLCD display technology enables us to ramp up our production capabilities quickly to meet the high-demand,” said Peter Chou, CEO of HTC Corporation. “The SLCD displays provide consumers with a comparable visual experience to HTC’s current 3.7 inch displays with some additional benefits including battery performance.”
