Windows Phone 7, iPhone 4 and Nexus One Browser Speeds Compared

Pocket Now managed to get hold of an LG Panther Windows Phone 7 smartphone. The new smartphone is obviously pre-release as WP7 hasn’t launched yet. This means the hardware might not be final and the OS is certainly not final.

Just to see how Windows Phone 7 is shaping up it’s self though, Pocket Now decided to run some tests of browser speeds between the Windows Phone 7, Apple iPhone 4 and Google Nexus One to see which was the best of them all.

Each was running the latest OS available at the time. [Read more…]

HTC Tablet to use N-Trig Screen

N-Trig isn’t a well known company although you might have heard of the Microsoft [MSFT] Surface computer which uses these particular screens.

We now hear that the same company, N-Trig, will also be providing screens for the upcoming HTC Tablet devices. The screen for the HTC Tablet will of course be multi-touch.

The HTC Tablet is expected to be the Google Tablet much like the Nexus One was built for Google [GOOG] by HTC. The tablet is expected to run the new Chrome OS. [Read more…]

Cruz Reader and Tablet Available for Pre-Order

Velocity has made the Cruz Reader and Cruz Tablet available for pre-order.

Not much is known about the eBook Reader and tablet device other than they run Google Android for the OS and are capable of connecting up to the Borders Bookstore to download eBooks from.

Technical spec wise, nothing is really listed. CrunchGear point out that not showing the specs could indicate that the devices are low end and might struggle to handle video playback and games. [Read more…]

Samsung Cetus i917 Windows Phone 7 on AT&T Spotted

Engadget has scored a number of Windows Phone 7 and Android scoops through the night it seems. The latest is for the Samsung Cetus i917. The Cetus is another Windows Phone 7 smartphone.

It is described as being Pre-esque in shape. From what we understand, it will also be moving on to the AT&T [T] network. On the back of the device it is glossy, black and curved. The front has a 4 inch AMOLED screen. With the Cetus being Samsung built, it could well be the Super AMOLED screen that is also used on the Galaxy S for example. [Read more…]

T-Mobile G2 Captured on Camera

Earlier this week a T-Mobile G2 mini site was launched. The G2 is a step up from the G1 and brings a list of improved features such as a faster processor, more memory, better screen and an updated Android OS. Another feature is that it will be compatible with HSPA+ networks allowing it to receive and send data at 4G speeds on the T-Mobile network.

The new smartphone is expected to have a 3.7 inch screen and also have a sliding QWERTY keyboard as pictures above. One thing we noticed when compared to the G1 is that a row of keys is missing with the QWERTY being the top row with numbers on the shift key. [Read more…]

LG Tablet to be Better than the iPad – According to LG

In an interview with the WSJ, the LG VP of Marketing said that the LG Tablet will be better than the iPad. The reason for this is that it’s going to be surprisingly productive to use.

It’s an interesting and bold statement and one we wish them luck with. Often when declaring words such as those mentioned above, the products don’t cut it and end up not selling. [Read more…]

Dell Thunder Prototype Gets Previewed

Engadget managed to get hold of a couple of prototypes of the Dell Thunder smartphone.

It appears that the Dell Thunder could work on both CDMA and GSM networks as some code inside had references to both networks. An interesting feature on the phone is the screen looks to be slightly curved. When we say feature, it’s not exactly ground breaking, but certainly different to the flat glass screens we see these days.

This particular phone (or set of phones) were labled EVT1 which indicates it is perhaps the first engineering verification test. With this, a number of problems were spotted such as a few screen issues, no hole for the microphone as well as a few small quirks, all of which should be ironed out before launch we assume. BlackBerry Mobile Ads

Research in Motion [RIMM] is rumoured to be looking at buying a mobile ad network to generate more revenue for the company. The networks are believed to be similar to that of Google [GOOG], Apple [AAPL] in that the ads will target mobile pages.

This move appears to have arrived because of the success of the Apple iPhone as well as the rise of Google Android based smartphones which are eating in to sales of the BlackBerry range of phone.

Mobile ads offer a new window to make money, big money, especially when you consider the number of mobile devices that have an Internet connection. To try and get a piece of this pie, RIM tried to purchase Millennial Media, but at $500 million, the asking price was just to high for the struggling company.

HP webOS Tablet Release Date – Early Next Year

Yesterday, HP had an earnings call in which they discussed the companies financial details for the last quarter. For some, that’s not particularly interesting. However, in that call someone asked about the arrival of a tablet from HP.

Facebook Places Launches on iPhone

The Facebook iPhone app was updated last night to version 3.2. Along with a few bug fixes, a new service was launched called Facebook Places. Facebook Places aims to tackle the likes of Foursquare and Gowalla as a location check-in service that lets you post where abouts you are.

The service isn’t available just yet in the UK, but should be rolling out soon. For those of you in the US, you already have access to this service with this update. In regards to privacy settings, they are surprisingly not that bad in that Facebook hasn’t opted you in to letting the whole world know exactly where you are. Instead, this information is restricted to just friends. However, Here.org.uk does point out a particular default setting that allows friends to check you in to places which if you worry about this sort of stuff you might want to disable that option.
