After several months of leaks and details about the Samsung Galaxy Tab, it has now been made official.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab will have a 7 inch screen and it will run Android 2.2 (Froyo). The 7 inch tablet is capable of making and receiving both voice and video calls and it has the ability to send text messages, picture messages and email of course.

Swype for Symbian Launches

Swype is a keyboard available for Android OS based devices that lets you draw between the characters of words to enter text on a virtual keyboard. By using the Swype system to enter text, it allows for text entry up to about 40 words per minute.

Swype is now landing on Symbian touchscreen devices and has been made compatible with several Nokia S60 5th Edition touchscreen phones which includes the Nokia 5800, Nokia 5230, Nokia X6, Nokia N97 and Nokia N97 mini. [Read more…]

ViewSonic ViewPad 7 at IFA

IFA 2010 has opened. At IFA, ViewSonic has the ViewPad 7 tablet on show. The ViewPad 7 is one of four possible tablet devices that are expected to launch this year.

The OS running on the ViewPad 7 is Android. The tablet will be called the OlivePad when it launches in India. The screen is described by Engadget as not that good although they say they have seen worse.

It runs a 600Mhz CPU and it works well with Android 2.2. [Read more…]

Motorola MILESTONE 2 to Arrive in Europe

Motorola has announced that the DROID 2 will be heading to Europe as the Motorola MILESTONE 2, like the Motorola DEFY, it will also be “enhanced” with MOTOBLUR. Unfortunately.

The MILESTONE 2 will launch with Android 2.2 installed which also allows for Adobe Flash 10.1 to be run in the browser. The CPU on the MILESTONE 2 is 1GHz and the device features the same slide out keyboard as the DROID 2. Essentially, it’s the same phone but branded slightly different for whatever reason.

Features of the Motorola MILESTONE 2 include the 3G mobile hotspot capabilities that allows for up to five wireless devices to connect up and share the 3G connection. [Read more…]

Google Buys Social Deck the Social Games Developer

Google [GOOG] has purchased a social games developer called Social Deck. Social Deck is a company that makes games for both mobile and smartphones which indicates Google are moving in to games development.

The games built by Social Desk are generally multiplayer based that work across networks. Popular devices developed for include the iPhone and BlackBerry smartphones. [Read more…]

Google Launch Gmail Priority Inbox

Google [GOOG] has launched a new feature in Gmail called Gmail Priority Inbox. The new service uses a system that learns which emails are most important to you and prioritises them based on how you use your email.

When emails arrive at Gmail, they are first scanned for spam and then discarded. If they pass successfully through the filter, Google then determines if the email is a priority or not and organises them appropriately.

The system learns what emails you read first, what you reply to and how you read your email. By learning what you do, it can then promote an email to a priority status so that you can sort through the most important emails first. [Read more…]

Sony Ericsson Xperia X8 to Cost Less Than $300 Unlocked

Back in June this year, Sony Ericsson announced the Xperia X8. After a few months of waiting we finally are seeing some more details about it. Engadget also managed to get a hands-on with the smartphone to see what it’s all about.

First impressions reveal that the X8 is a little chunky, rather than slim. It has a 3 inch screen, a 600MHz CPU and a 3.2 megapixel camera.

The downside of the X8 is that it also runs Android 1.6 along with a very deep custom skin. An update to Android 2.1 is expected in the 4th quarter of this year although there was no mention of Android 2.2 or perhaps 3.0 which most people will be looking out for at that time. [Read more…]

Logitech Revue Google TV Commercial Launches

Logitech is getting ready to launch the Logitech Revue this fall. The Revue is a Google TV companion box that will bring the new Google TV services to existing HDTV’s.

Three adverts have been launched which simply put, are weird. They each feature a HDTV with legs running around a house, frightening someone to death or taking a swim outside.

Smartbook Surfer Internet Tablet

The Surfer Tablet is heading to Germany soon from what we hear. It’s not a tablet we’ve heard of before although it sounds quite interesting.

The tablet runs Google Android 2.1, has a 7 inch screen with a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels and is powered by a 720MHz CPU along with 256MB of RAM.

Other features include 2GB of NAND Flash memory built in for storing data as well as the ability to complement that using a micro SD memory card. Details of the maximum sized card you can install have not been provided.

For connectivity it has Wireless 802.11b/g although there is no 3G support from what we can figure out. [Read more…]

Samsung Galaxy Tab Preview

It’s getting closer to the official announcement of the Samsung Galaxy Tab, yet here we are again with another one captured on camera.

This time the Samsung Galaxy Tab was captured in Korea. It runs Android 2.2, has WCDMA 3G, 802.11n wireless networking and a screen with an aspect ratio of 16:10 that measures 7 inches.

Previously, the Galaxy Tab was only seen briefly with not much on the UI and how it runs. [Read more…]

Samsung Galaxy S gets DivX HD Certified

Samsung has announced that the Samsung Galaxy S is now DivX Certified for HD video playback at a resolution of 720p. This makes it the worlds first Android mobile phone to reach this certification level. Previously the Samsung Wave was the first phone to get DivX HD certified making the Galaxy S the second phone.

Along with that announcement, some details of the smartphone were re-emphasized such as the 4 inch Super AMOLED display along with the 1GHz processor and powerful 3D graphics.

To enjoy DivX video on the Galaxy S, consumers can load their video libraries of both standard definition and HD 720p movies in the DivX format on the internal and external memory (expandable to 32GB) and then watch their collections anywhere they choose. In addition, the Galaxy S can connect directly to other DivX Certified devices, such as HDTVs, turning it into a powerful mobile set-top box in the living room. The Galaxy S will also support the secure playback of major Hollywood titles in the DivX format from leading studios.

Samsung Galaxy Tab Release Date to Be Announced Soon

Samsung finally revealed some official details about the Samsung Galaxy Tab. The Samsung Galaxy Tab release date is yet to be revealed although the official teaser video below does show that the Samsung Tablet will be unveiled on September 2 at IFA.

As well as revealing the unveiling date, Samsung also reveal a few other things on the short but sweet video. Features confirmed include a 7 inch screen, Google Android 2.2, Swype HD keyboard entry, HD video, video calling, navigation and movie playback to name a few things. [Read more…]
