Laptop on Steroids
This laptop comes from Eurocom. Eurocom is a company that I do not recall ever hearing about before, but from this offering of Laptop I find my self interested in what they have to offer. The D90XC comes with a 17.1″ WUXGA widescreen display running at an impressive 1920 x 1200 resolution. It can also run at 1680 x 1050 (WSXGA+) if needed. [Read more…]
iPod Translator for the Army and You

The iPod has become extremely popular since it’s launch and a number of accessories and other 3rd party things are made for it. The latest is the VCommunicator which is a very useful translation device which has an intuitive menu system which you can scroll through to translate various phrases in to another language. Connect it up to a loud speaker and entertain crowds of people also. Currently it is used by the army and assists them in communicating with foreign speakers they come across.
Panasonic Strada PNS

The Strada CN-MP50D was created by Panasonic and is a PNS (Portable Navigation System). Usually they are referred to as GPS devices. It has a 5″ LCD screen running in widescreen format at 480 x 272 pixels. The screen is also backlit. As well as having 2 GB of storage the Strada also has a 1Seg TV tuner in there too. The device will cost 455 Euros and seems to only be available in Japan. I must admit that the 3D nav pictured does look quite cool with that lane guidance built in.
Due to it having a 1Seg tuner in there I doubt we will see it over this side of the globe in it’s current form.

Google Maps Upgrade – Street Level Images

Google recently went through an upgrade on their maps section found at maps.google.com. If you go to one of these 5 cities (New York, Las Vegas, San Francisco, Denver or Miami) you can now get images at street level which you can see in a 360 degree perspective. I guess this is Googles attempt to catch up with the cool Virtual Earth by MSN who have better 3D models on their earth application. Looking around the street level images I find that they actually are very good and do add a great perspective on what you search for on the maps site.
Vulcania Watch

I have always been a fan of a good watch, my current being one from TokyoFlash who most of you are probably aware of. However, I came across the Vulcania Watch from HD3 which is another amazing looking watch. It used to be in concept but eventually became a real device. As can be seen in the pictures, the watch works in a deeply set 3D display. The watch can be seen through it’s front and back sapphire glass panels. As can be seen, this is one seriously cool watch. To add to it’s looks, the watch is made of titanium and platinum. Unfortunately only 11 of these watches will be made. If you are lucky to get your hands on one then let us know 🙂

GooPs – Track yourself on Google Earth

Since the launch of Google Earth, we have been able to see satellite images of the earth, quite often in high detail and zoom in and out of a 3D environment. A few years back this would have cost a lot of money to have access to something like this. Mixing Google Earth with a GPS receiver, laptop and some free software you can get a very powerful in car/portable mapping system in seriously cool detail. The software you can use is called GooPs which allows you to interface the GPS device with Google Earth. Once connected and paired via Bluetooth you can fire up Google Earth and track where you visit. Another excellent feature is the caching feature of Google Earth which allows you to put it up to 2Gb. You can then zoom in to the city or place you want to visit and then use the cache to have access to the software while on the road.
The tracking software can be colour coded to show speed increases and other things. Overall it’s a very nice and very affordable solution.

Samsung STT-D370 GPS

Samsung have created a nice looking GPS device called the STT-D370 which has a 3.7 inch TFT screen, Bluetooth, SD memory and a removable battery. Looking at the screen it seems like it features a 3D mapping system which even shows a selection of buildings. No doubt this will be reserved for busy cities. It will be cool if they can allow users to submit 3D models to download to your device. The device will cost around 600 dollars when it is released in Korea but hopefully it will reach this side of the world soon.

Memory Infinite – Concept USB Storage Device

The Memory Infinite is a concept idea thought of by Vicky Wei. The 3D models above were created and illustrate an example of linking multiple USB flash drives together to make the storage larger and appear as 1 virtual drive. As larger flash drive come on sale it no longer means the end of your old drive. The new drive can simply plug in to the back of the older drive and the storage space is increased. With it being concept there is no official date of this being released, if ever. The only questions that come to my mind is… how many drives would you want to link together before you have a serious long chain of them, and would it actually work as 1 drive.
This is still a nice idea and the 3D images do make it look cool.

ATI Radeon X1950 XTX
The latest and most powerful graphics card has been made by ATI. It’s the ATI Radeon X1950 XTX and it has a lot to be proud of. It boasts a 512Mb of 2Ghz GDDR4 memory, runs 48-pixel shaders and eight vertex shaders. What does all that mean? Well, it’s fast. Previous ATI high end cards suffered with a noisey fan but this has now been fixed. The price is a nice $449 which is not bad and very competitive with todays cards.
