Cool USB Flash Drives

USB Flash Drive
These USB flash drives are not what you normally see. They are custom built from old cars and I must admit that they do look rather cool. Each costs $17 and has a capacity of 256MB. Another picture is available after the jump.

Cool RC Planes

RC Concorde

Scale RC Models

RC planes, helicopters and cars are cool. I have seen a few RC planes and jets, but not actually seen scale models of real planes such as RC 747s, RC Concordes and others. Over at funny pictures you will see a bunch of planes that have been made, scaled down and actually being flown around.

Nissan Makes an In Car Breathalyzer

In Car Breathalyzer

In Car Breathalyzer will not allow the car to start if intoxicated

Nissan have created an in car breathalyzer which prevents the car from being started if the person driving is over the limit. The sensor is required to be used before the car starts and will not start until a person under the limit is tested. This is a nice step forwards and helps those driving know if they should drive, and prevents them if they shouldnt. Of course it could be bypassed by having someone else use the breathalyzer… but hopefully all those under the limit would be smart enough to say no to a request like that from a drunk person.

Toyota have also been working on a system, but this time it uses sweat sensors on the steering wheel which take blood alcohol reading while driving. Using this information with a mixture of steering patterns and a test on your pupils while driving it could be set to immobilise the car while driving.

These systems should be available over the next couple of years and might one day become standard in cars to help prevent dangerous driving while intoxicated.

Secure your car with the Violent Steering Wheel

WORLD’S MOST VIOLENT STEERING WHEEL !!! – video powered by Metacafe

Thieves will have no chance with the violent steering wheel

A guy from Ohio has created a secure steering wheel which when touched it violently spins around making the car impossible to drive away. I am guessing it could also break your wrist depending on how powerful the motor that controls it is. With it being custom built there is no information if any of the car companies would use or want something like this in their cars.

Pre Alert System to Prevent Car Crashes

V2V

Vehicle to Vehicle can warn of dangers around you

The V2V system has been created to help prevent drivers from having accidents. The system was created by General Motors and uses wireless technology with sensors to allow cars with the system fitted to communicate with each other up to 300 yards. The system aims to tell you when there is a car approaching around the corner, or to point out cars in your blind spot. When certain conditions are met you will be alerted so you can prepare and take action.

Unfortunately this will take GM 6 years to put in their production line for some reason even though it only costs about $250 per car. On another note, I do worry that this could make drivers more lazy. If I dont need to check certain things and assume that because the system says there is no car in my blind spot and go then there could be a time when there is a car there and I do not bother to check out of habit. However, if used correctly this could be very helpful in situations where you need to overtake, or drive on country roads where its difficult to see what is around the next corner.

Remote Controlled Dinosaur

Remote Controlled Dinosaur
Remote control toys have entertained for years, from cars to more recently the Picoz helicopter. Now firebox has bought forward a new concept in the race to evolve RC toys – an RC dinosaur. Named the Pterosaur, it has a range of 100ft and can be used indoors and outdoors. This prehistoric reptile flies by flapping its wings and is ready to fly straight from the box. Once the original charge has depleted, it is simple to recharge – it just uses the portable quick charger. (the hand-held control) If you are afraid that a small crash may have catastrophic consequences – possible extinction – then be put at ease, the Pterosaur has a durable foam body that should withstand day to day impacts.

Blueant Supertooth Light

Blueant Supertooth Light
For those of you who are regular users of hands free kits in cars you will be familiar with how difficult it sometimes is to hear with traffic noise, road noise and the speaker often in a hidden place in the car which muffles the sound. The Blueant Supertooth Light has technology built in to cancel background noise allowing you to heat the conversation more clearly. The video on youtube also suggests that you can hear this device with the windows down which is interesting to hear. The device it’s self is portable and can hook on to your sun visor allowing close proximity to your mouth for the built in microphone to pick up your voice. As the name suggests, this device is Bluetooth too and allows you to connect directly to your phone.

The device is powered by a lithium-ion battery which allows for 15 hours of talk time and 33 days of standby time which makes this device excellent for portability. To add to that you can charge it with the in car charger which makes it an even more attractive option.

Other features of this device are voice dialling which makes this device more usable while on the road and it can be paired with 5 devices.

Remote House Door Locking

Remote House Door Locking
Remote locking on cars has been around for years. However, I have not seen it before for a house. This device allows you to unlock your house just like you would your car, via remote control. It is fully programmable and allows up to 19 keys to be stored in its memory bank.

Priced at $300 it might be a little steep, but it does cut down a lot of space and allow you to lock your doors from a 50 meter range. All you now need to do is program the bedroom lights to blink 3 times and your burglar alarm to chirp every time you leave for the day.

X-Twin Bi-Plane

Firebox has put on sale another cool rc flying thing. Similar to the Picoz Micro Helicopter we reviewed a few days ago, this one is now a small bi-plane which has 2 props to keep it flying in the air. Nice little living room present I think 🙂

X-Twin Plane

The Plane
It’s light… at just 20 grammes and has a wingspan of a mere 9″ (3″ short of a foot for those who struggled at maths). It’s made out of some type of foam. With it being made of such a lite material then those who struggle to keep this in the air will be glad to know it generally wont break if you crash the thing.

Controls
The X-Twin plane is easy to control. It has a smart handheld transmitter which also is used to charge the plane. It flys for around 15 minutes which is plenty of fun to be had.

Small Plane

Over all I am impressed with the new range of indoor flying things that are coming out. A couple of years back it was the mini cars (Bit char-g) and now they have taken it the next step on and allowed us to fly around the house 🙂 Ok, we could do that with the expensive toys but how quick would you break the toy and the living room if you tried that? 🙂

X-Twin

Go pick one up now from Firebox and have a laugh in your living room or in the office. To make it even cooler there are 2 frequencies available so 2 people can fly together. How cute!

Pico Flyer

The PicoFlyer is the worlds smallest functional RC helicopter. It’s rotors are 60mm in diameter and the helicopter can fly for around 3 minutes. Looking at the screen shots it reminds me of the insides of a tiny RC car (the Tomy ones) and from what I can tell it’s made of 3 motors (2 for the rotors and 1 for the rear rotor) and charges just like the BitChargE cars.

More Pictures can be found here.

Absolutely stable without the use of any gyros or autopilots

There are no servos, actuators, rods, links, gears or other moving part

The whole helicopter is operated and controlled by 3 electric motors

Forward flight is achieved by tilting the helicopter with the tail propeller

The rotor blades are encircled by a ring that supports and protects them

It is very efficient, all the power is used to generate lift

It is silent, the mechanical drives and the rotors generate very little noise

There are no vibrations

It is safe
