Scary Old Mice

Mouse
Can you imagine having to use a mouse like this? It looks like it is dated from years back. The mouse today isnt too different from it though to be fair. Most have dropped the middle button for just 2 on the top front, but also now we see more scroll wheels and thumb controls down the side of the mouse as well as less wires and no mouse ball. More mouse pictures from that era are available after the jump.

Near Field Communications – Your Mobile Phone as a Credit Card

Credit Card Phone
Near Field Communications (NFC) allows a mobile phone to be used as a credit card by swiping the phone over a plate on a vending machine for example. Of course any machine that accepts it will need to be modified to accept payment via this method. As the mobile phone over the last few years has become more popular and converged with other devices such as cameras, radio, video players and web browsing it makes sense that the wallet also be combined with it since you carry your phone around most places you go.

Clevo Laptop Graphics Card

Clevo Laptop Graphics Card
We covered the Clevo 20 inch laptop the other day and it got me thinking more about the actual hardware it utilises to run that massive screen and keep the nice WSXGA+ LCD (1680 x 1050) resolution. The Clevo laptop graphics card actually comes in 3 different options. These are…

* Dual /SLI nVIDIA GeForceTM Go 7900 GTX (G71M-GTX) High performance
* Dual /SLI nVIDIA Quadro FX 2500M high performance graphic chip
* Dual /SLI nVIDIA GeForce Go 7950 GTX(G71M-UU) high performance graphic chip

Those 3 cards are some seriously good kit and especially for a laptop. The 7900 GTX is capable of shifting 38.4GB/s of memory bandwidth and the 7950 GTX can shift 44.8 GB/s. The FX 2500M is capable of shifting 38.4GB/s also. Being able to shift all that data so quick makes these cards and laptop ideal for 3D graphics. As well as 3D graphics these clevo laptop graphics cards are capable of XHD (Extreme High Definition) which allows you to play the latest 3D games in high definition with out the frame rate loss. As well as this you can watch High Definition movies which are displayed using NVIDIAs PureVideo technology.

Before reading up on the graphics card for Clevo I was just expecting some onboard shared memory card. I was mistaken. Before you run out and buy one of these nice laptops take in to consideration that the Quadro FX 2500M has different specs to the Go 79xx series cards.

One last item to mention is the Clevo laptops are not the only 20 inch screen laptops to use these graphics cards. They actually build the chassis and companies like Alienware, Sager and VoodooPC customise them to suit their needs.

Transcend 16GB Express Card

Transcend Express Card
If you would like 16Gb of extra memory for your Vista PC in either drive space or RAM then you can give this Transcend 16GB Express Card a test drive. Unfortunatly the steep costs puts the price at 1000 Euros which is probably not worth bothering with at the moment. But as memory prices are always coming down then it should be more affordable in the not too distant future.

OCZ Versatile Trifecta Flash Card

Trifecta Flash Card
The Trifecta Flash Card from OCZ technologies is a unique 3 way compatible storage device. It works as a MicroSD, SD and USB key in one which allows easy transfering of files between several devices such as a laptop with USB and a phone with microSD. As transfering files is becoming more needed these days, it seems a logical step to include as many formats in 1 card so that no cables need to be carried around. Overall, I think this is an impressive device.

Two memory capacities are available allowing 1Gb or 2Gb of data to be stored wuth a read rate of 66X. The card comes standard with a 5 year warranty.

Wiimote Controlled Car

Wiimote Controlled Car
We just love the Wii hacks here for the Wiimote control. The latest I came across today was the Wiimote controlled car. It comes from a german modder who made a script for the wiimote enabling movement of the wiimote to control the car. It can control the car in the basic moves which are backwards, forwards, left and right.

The system works with the help of a laptop and a bluetooth dongle. Pair up the wiimote with the laptop and run the script on the laptop. Then the script passes signals on to the remote control via a serial cable which inturn controlls the car.

8Gb SDHD Card

8Gb SDHD
Ultra Products have released an 8Gb SDHD card which costs just 150 dollars. It has a transfer speed of 2Mb/second but the shear size and small price is pretty cool. The card is only compatible with a number of readers, so do check first that you have an SDHD compliant device before forking out 150 dollars for one of these.

Credit Card Alarm

Credit Card Alarm
Credit card fraud can cause some big issues for people if it catches them out. The credit card alarm is just one step to keeping your card safe. The device is made out of plastic and stainless steel and is made to beep every 20 seconds should your card mysteriously get taken from it. The alarm is not a loud noise, but rather a discreet noise to notify you and not others around you.

Maybe I misunderstand the purpose though… surely if someone was to swipe your card then surely they wouldn’t go to the trouble of getting it out of your wallet, taking the card out of the card alarm case, putting it back in your wallet and putting that back in your bag for you to hear the beep (hopefully) which says the card is gone. Very odd!

How to Spot fake Memory Cards

Digisniper.com have written a nice article on how to spot fake memory cards. To be honest, I never thought that this would be something that would happen, but was amazed at the details this article gives about detecting fake cards.
