Solar Wheeled Bike – The E-V Sunny

sunnybikeev
This bike sports some shiny solar panels on the wheels which are responsible for powering this beauty. The solar panels can power a 500 watt motor as well as charge the batteries. It seems like you need to let the bike stand for a bit before using the power so that the batteries can get a good charge and get this thing running at 19MPH. One downside is that it weighs a hefty 75 pounds which cannot be good if you are working your way up a hill and need more sunlight to get you to the top.

Another problem I see if the wheels. No doubt a hefty side wind is going to whip you right off this thing if you are not careful. Just take care as it will cost you $1295 to buy a new one should you damage it. The alternative option is the conversion kit for $800.

1GB Now and Then

1GB now and then
Maybe this should be named then and then as SD memory has jumped up way more then 1GB. However, this photo is a side by side comparison of a 1GB HDD made by IBM about 20 years ago and a 1GB SD card from a couple of years ago. Its amazing how technology has advanced in these past 20 – 30 years.

Compasso Leonardo Genio
You may or may not be familiar with the number 1.6180339877. It is the golden ratio or Phi and all related in some way to Fibonacci who calculated this ratio. A lot of things around you use this ratio such as a credit card and even your own body. Anyway, the point of this post isnt to explain what the golden ratio is.

Crazy Death Star Cinema Room

Death Star Theatre
This cool looking star wars theatre was built to look like the death star control deck. The design includes C3PO and Bobafett. It took 36 months to build. Two entrances can be found which have back lit floors to either the left or right followed by automatic sliding doors. A secret door can be found behind Han Solo who is stuck in carbonite. In that room you will find an extensive video and audio collection. All the equipment is kept out of the main room next to the media room. In the cinema its self there are 3 rows of seats, a fiber optic star field, and 22 feet of space from the back wall to the screen.

150K Record Player – Transrotor Artus

transrotor_player2
The LP player has been around for a long time now. A new one has been created by Transrotor and is named Artus. It weighs 250 kilos and costs $150k. Apparently weight is everything when it comes to audio quality. For some reason I cannot imagine a mobile DJ wanting one of these to carry around too soon. The Artus has a contact less magnetic field drive, a balanced arm and new electronics.

Streetwise Small Fry Stun Gun

SF1000R
The streetwise small fry stun gun allows you to carry 1 million volts in your pocket. Sounds a tad scary to me. It is small and can be concealed easily and fit in the palm of your hand. When using the device it makes an intimidating electrical sound which I am sure will make those attacked fear even before they get hit by it. When it touches an attacker for a few seconds the high voltage causes a loss of muscle control and balance making them fall to the floor. Give them 10 minutes and they will be fine. There is a safety button on the device to prevent you zapping your leg while walking around.

I have no idea what the legal advice is on carrying one of these around. Maybe you will need to read a disclaimer to the attacker and have them sign it before you can zap them 😉 The stun gun is rechargeable and costs $79.95.

F-22 RC Raptor

Here we have a seriously cool RC F-22 Raptor taking off, flying and landing. The plane does look great and must have taken a while to build with the jet engines and under carriage that also moves.

Motorola ROKR U9

Motorola_ROKR_u9_rokr
Motorola are releasing a new clamshell phone named the Rokr U9. It looks ok, although I am not a huge fan of clamshell phones. The screen is a 1.4 inch 128 x 160 pixel OLED which seems quite cool. It is a quad band phone with GPRS and EDGE. The camera is lacking at 2 mega pixels with no auto focus or flash. Inside is a 1.8 inch QVGA screen which has more colours then the outside one and is slightly larger in resolution at 240 x 320 pixels. Other features such as MP3 playback, memory card slots and Bluetooth connectivity can be found. Its not a bad phone, but nothing too exciting to be honest.

Nokia Maps get an Upgrade

Nokia Maps
Nokia Maps has been released which has a few new features. A GPS status indicator can now be seen which shows you when a GPS signal is available and when it is in use. Also the map loading software is quicker which allows quicker navigation loading. Maps by Nokia is a powerful free application which has maps for more then 150 countries. The only things you need to watch out for are data charges from your mobile phone carrier. It helps to have an unlimited plan. Nokia Maps can pinpoint where you are via GPS and can pull information from a database of POI (point of interest) telling you things like how far the closest cash machine is.

Mitsubishi i MIEV Sport – Concept

Mitsubishi-i-MIEV-Sport
The iMIEV sport is a concept car from Mitsubishi. The car has a couple of interesting features such as a solar roof and two compact wind turbines in the front grill. These two features help increase the range of the car slightly by keeping the batteries more charged. Another feature to assist charging the batteries is a regenerative braking system which pushes charge back in to the batteries. The lithium-ion batteries are stored underneath the floor where the passengers sit.

The lighting on the car LED which allows for more energy to be conserved. To allow the car to run cooler inside the windows are heat absorbing so that less heat travels in to where the passengers sit.

Seems like a cool idea although I cannot say I like the look of it too much. If it can give the electrics that extra boost then all must be good.

MikroSol Solar RC Plane

MikroSol
MikroSol was built way back in 1995 and was capable of flying at 4.8m/s powered by solar energy. Over the next few years it was replaced with a few other models such as the NanoSol. Maybe solar is the way forwards for planes. I think it would take a HEFTY amount to carry weight though.
