Apple iPhone 4G to get Front Facing Camera – Rumour

We hear a number of rumours about new Apple [AAPL] products when a new launch is expected. The last rumour indicated that the next gen iPhone would get a Super AMOLED screen that is created by Samsung.

The next rumour was started due to a patent that was spotted that is entitled “Apparatus and Method for Compensating for Variations in Digital Cameras” where a drawing of an iPod was shown which appears to have a camera in the bezel that is forward facing. Olympus PEN E-PL1 Micro Four Thirds Camera Now Available

The Olympus PEN E-PL1 Micro Four Thirds digital camera is now available over at Amazon in the US. The camera has a 12.3 megapixel sensor and is in the micro four thirds format allowing it to be compact as well as powerful.

A lens is included in the package which is a 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 Zuiko digital zoom lens. On the back of the camera is a 2.7 inch HyperCrystal LCD display that also has Live View. The PEN E-PL1 is capable of capturing HD video and storage of images and video is to SD or SDHC memory cards (supplied separately). Sigma SD15 Digital SLR Camera

Sigma have revealed details of a new camera called the Sigma SD15. The SD15 is a digital SLR camera that is an upgrade to the previous SD14 model. The new model now accepts SD cards for storage and has a more durable shutter mechanism.

Other features include a new sensor that can capture images in RAW format up to 21 frames in a single shoot. The sensor is called the Foveon X3 and the image processing engine used is the Sigma TRUEII. A 77 segment AE sensor can be found on the SD15.

On the back of the camera is a 3 inch TFT screen that can display 460,000 pixels. [Read more…]

General Electric Introduce new Digital Cameras

General Electric isn’t a company you’ll probably think of if asked to name a make of digital camera, but here we have a few new cameras introduced by GE recently.

The first series is the GE Active Series G5WP that is waterproof and rugged camera. It is built with a sturdy metal design allowing it to take a few knocks along the way. The camera it’s self has a 4X internal zoom lens which captures images at 12.2 megapixels. The camera comes in a graphite gray, raspberry red and ocean blue colours. When launched in the second quarter it will cost $179.99.

The next camera is the GE Power Pro Series X5 that features a larger optical zoom capable of 15X. A 28mm lens is included along with optical image stabilization. When launched in Q2 it will be priced at $149.99. [Read more…]

Casio EX-10HG GPS Enabled Camera

Back at CES in Vegas last month, Casio had on display a concept camera called the Casio EX-10HG. This particular camera is similar to EX-FH100 but is different in that it has a built in GPS chip. The GPS chip is utilised more than just geo-tagging though and can be used as a guidance system by pulling data from Google Maps to show you exactly where you are at any given time.

Over at PMA that’s running at the moment, a Casio representative revealed that the concept camera was actually to be launched this year in October and will have a price point of $400. [Read more…]

Sony Concept Camera Unveiled

Sony are working on a new ultra-compact camera that uses interchangeable lenses. The new DSLR is currently being developed and is scheduled for launch this year. The camera uses a newly developed Exmor APS HD CMOS sensor that supports HD video recording in the AVCHD format.

As well as introducing and showing an early design of the ultra-compact camera, Sony also had on show their latest DSLR called the a700 which at this moment in time, is also a concept/mock up. This camera falls in to the mid-range area of cameras from Sony and is aimed at so called “prosumers” and those who immerse themselves more in to photography. [Read more…]

Casio EX-S7 and EX-Z35 Exilim Cameras Announced

Casio have announced the launch of two new point and shoot cameras from their Exilim range called the Casio EX-S7 and the Casio EX-Z35. Each of the cameras has a 12 megapixel sensor along with a 3X zoom lens.

The EX-S7 is capable of capturing video at a HD resolution of 720p and has the larger screen out of the two cameras measuring 2.7 inches vs the 2.5 inches of the EX-Z35 camera.

The Casio EX-S7 as well as having the above mentioned features also is compatible with SD memory cards. Camera functions include Dynamic Photo that creates a green-screen effect while taking pictures. It uses the EXILIM Engine 5.0 system that is an upgrade to the earlier version 4.0 model. This 5.0 system uses a CPU as well as a dedicated image processing CPU and with this combination it can produce images up to 30% quicker as well as providing greater colour and image enhancements. Fujifilm FinePix XP10 12 MP Waterproof Digital Camera on Pre-Order

The Fujifilm FinePix XP10 waterproof digital camera has been listed on Amazon for pre-order recently. Currently there is no known shipping date, but we expect it to be within the next few weeks due to the pre-orders being taken.

The FinePix XP10 has a 12 megapixel sensor that allows large images to be captured. The camera is also rugged thanks to it’s protection against water, cold, shock and dust. This protection allows it to be used in more extreme circumstances without the worry of the camera getting broken if dropped in water or if dust hits it.

Other features include a 5 times optical zoom lens that has a reinforced protective barrier on the lens. [Read more…]

Gorillapod Focus with Ballhead X Can Carry 5KG Cameras

The Gorillapod has been updated and a new accessory added to the range that allows a camera weighing up to 5KG to be securely attached. The new accessory is called the Ballhead X and allows the photographer to pan, tilt and rotate their camera while keeping a sturdy grip on the camera preventing it from dropping. The Ballhead X is compatible with the Gorillapod Focus tripod.

By using an accessory like this it allows you to move your camera to capture all sorts of angles allowing for some decent long exposure shots to be captured.

The Ballhead X costs £69.95 in the UK. Unfortunately the Ballhead X isn’t compatible with the newly announced magnetic version of the tripod. [Read more…]

Nokia N87 AMOLED Camera Phone Details Leaked – Rumour

Yesterday we mentioned a new Nokia N series phone that was rumoured to be launching or at least unveiled at MWC this month. The phone was spotted as the Nokia N8 although perhaps the N8 was referring to this Nokia N87 smartphone as the specs look very similar.

The Nokia N87 is said to have a 12 megapixel camera built in that is capable of capturing images at 720p. It uses Carl Zeiss optics and has a Xenon flash along with night viewing. The processor powering the Nokia N87 is believed to be a 600MHz ARM Cortex 8 processor.

Wireless is built in to the phone which is expected to be 802.11b/g and perhaps n also. An A-GPS chip is also built in allowing for location based services as well as navigation to be used on the device. An FM radio transmitter is to be found in the phone also. For storage it is expected to have either 16GB or 32GB onboard. [Read more…]

New Panasonic LUMIX Digital Cameras Shipping Mid-March

Towards the end of last month, Panasonic announced five new digital point & shoot cameras that were to be scheduled for launch. Panasonic have now provided pricing and dates for four of the five cameras with dates set for mid-March.

Panasonic LUMIX DMC-TS2

The first camera on the list is the Panasonic LUMIX DMC-TS2 that is the companies newest rugged digital camera and is capable of capturing images and video in HD quality. The camera uses a format called AVCHD Lite that is developed jointly between Sony and Panasonic and allows for capture and storage of up to 720p from the camera. With the LUMIX TS2 being rugged it can also withstand shock up to a 6.6 foot drop as well as be dropped down to 10 meters deep water. Also the camera can withstand temperatures down to -10 degrees C and is dustproof.

The technical features of the camera show that has a wide-angle lens built in that is measured at 28mm and is capable of 4.6 times optical zoom. Other functions allow for face recognition, iA (Intelligent Auto) mode and other features from the general LUMIX range. The camera will launch mid March and cost $399.95. (pictured above). Rumour: Next Gen Apple iPhone to get 720p Camera

Some information has been discovered which indicates that the next generation iPhone could be capable of capturing video at HD resolutions of 720p.

The signs come from information that was revealed in the latest iPhone OS 3.2 SDK that was launched last week and reveals that the width of images has been upped from 768 pixels wide to 1280 pixels and is capable of capturing 921,600 pixels. A bit of quick maths shows that the vertical amount of pixels would be 720 making it 720p. [Read more…]
