Playstation 3 Eye

Playstation Eye
The Eye Toy for the PS2 was a cool camera which you stuck on your TV and played games by jumping around in front of the screen. It was a toy which some hate and some love. The PS3 version named just the Playstation Eye, is due out soon which is a low res camera used for games and video chats over the TV. Costing $39.99 it boasts a few more features then the Eye Toy for the PS2. It now works in low level light areas, has 2 zoom levels and can capture video at a lower resolution up to 120 frames per second. At the 640 x 480 res it can do 60 FPS which is still cool. A built in microphone is also included allowing conversation, or voice commands in games.

2 Dollar Multi Touch Pad

2 Dollar Multi touch
What you see above is a multi touch pad built from a plastic bag, dyed water and a camera. The camera looks up from below and the image it sees it converted in to three areas through threshold. Light blue represents the background with dark blue being the fingers which are seen as an overlay on the screen. Pressure points are seen as another colour and when the pressure points show up they are recognised and translated accordingly. More technical details can be found at 37Signals linked after the video demonstration below. On to the practical side of this… I doubt anyone would want to carry a plastic bag of blue dye around with them, but its still cool and well worth checking out.

Mygo Cane

mygo cane
The Mygo Cane was created by a design student in Germany and has been named the Electronic guide dog. It hosts a bunch of features such as a sensor camera which can provide feedback about the area through a wireless headset. The can is waterproof so it can be used in rain and has a battery which supplies power for about 6 hours of use. Having these extra sensory features helps those who are blind to know the area they are in a little better. Developers are hoping to see this go out on sale at around $200 to make it affordable to those who need it.

Get rid of Screen scratches with an Egg

Here we have a demonstration found over at Metacafe which shows you how to wipe out screen scratches on your PDA, Phone, camera screen etc… It works by heating up the egg to 65 degrees C (not higher as egg goes harder at 71 degrees C). You then get a cloth, soak it, put it in the oven and repeat a few times. Once it dries out you have a cleaning cloth which apparently will wipe scratches out (or fill them in). The cloth works for about 100 times and seems like it could do its job. I think I need to try this on my mobile phone screen to see if its true.

Another option is to purchase a cheap screen scratch remover from Amazon costing less than $10.

Hasselblad H3D II Digital SLR

hasselblad-h3d-ii
The Hasselblad H3D II Digital SLR is a mean looking camera. The range boast 22, 31 or 39 megapixel CCDs with prices starting at 17900 Euros. The display is a bright 3 inch screen which allows for better viewing of images, but also uses less power consumption allowing you to get more pictures taken. Many features on the camera are controlled via menus on screen by using a thumb control. Just looking at the pictures of the camera make it look amazing. It would be interesting to see some pictures taken at the full 39 megapixels resolution.

Motorola ROKR U9

Motorola_ROKR_u9_rokr
Motorola are releasing a new clamshell phone named the Rokr U9. It looks ok, although I am not a huge fan of clamshell phones. The screen is a 1.4 inch 128 x 160 pixel OLED which seems quite cool. It is a quad band phone with GPRS and EDGE. The camera is lacking at 2 mega pixels with no auto focus or flash. Inside is a 1.8 inch QVGA screen which has more colours then the outside one and is slightly larger in resolution at 240 x 320 pixels. Other features such as MP3 playback, memory card slots and Bluetooth connectivity can be found. Its not a bad phone, but nothing too exciting to be honest.

Cool Porsche Mobile Phone

porsche-p9521-phone
The P9521 is designed by Porsche and looks great. It is the first ever designed phone by Porsche and is made from aluminium. The phone has a double hinge system which allows you to open the phone, rotate the screen and close it down in a similar way to the Clie. The glass on the screen is mineral glass and it does look amazing. Finger print scanning is built in and can replace a PIN code, or can be used to block access to certain parts of the phone. The camera is a 3.2 megapixel which is quite good and on the connectivity side there is GPRS and EDGE as well as being quad band. Bluetooth and USB are also built in.

HTC TyTN II

HTC TyTN II
The TyTN II from HTC was released recently. Dave over at MobilityToday managed to get hold of one for review and first impressions are quite good. Some bad things noted are the battery being too low capacity even though GPS, 802.11, HSDPA can be found which means less time using the device. GPS is not configurable, although it does just work with out problems. On the good side there is a great screen which can tilt allowing for better viewing. There is a lot of ram packed in there. The camera is 3 megapixel. TomTom is installed and it has USB charging which is great news.

Dave has more details over on his site as well as a full review to be expected soon.

The HTC Kaiser has now launched in Europe. It has been a long awaited smartphone. It is 3.5G compatible and runs Windows Mobile 6.0 Professional, has a built in QWERTY keyboard, GPS, 3 mega pixel auto focus camera, Bluetooth, 128MB RAM, Wifi b/g and a 2.8 inch display. The phone will be available on Orange, T-Mobile, Telefonica Group and Vodafone.

This is one particular phone I am going to try get my hands on when my upgrade is due in a month or 2. Having the keyboard and large screen as well as built in GPS makes this phone a great phone to have.

Sony-Ericsson PSP Concept

sony-ericsson-psp-phone-concept
Over the last year I have heard a couple of rumors floating about regarding the Sony PSP mobile phone. Currently the ideas are just concept which has inspired the picture above to be created. As can be seen it takes the current Sony Ericsson square looking type phone and includes a large screen and controlls. I am not sure if this concept or any concept will go ahead for the PSP phone, but we can hope for it. The idea could do real well if a cybershot camera, walkman type phone and PSP could be crammed in to the same package. All it would then need is wireless and VoIP and all would be perfect.
