New 7 Inch Eee Pad Launching at CES – Rumour
An image of a new ASUS tablet has been found by Netbook Italia which shows that a 7 inch Eee Pad could be launching at CES shortly. The last 7 inch device that Asus revealed was the Eee Pad Memo although that never actually launched. It is believed that this new device could carry on where the older one left off.
Google Chrome OS SmartBook Could Land This Month
Digitimes is reporting that Google [GOOG] could be launching a Google Chrome OS smartbook this month. The report indicates that Google will be using a similar strategy to how the Nexus One was created. Ie, another company created the Google branded hardware.
Google’s Chrome notebook is expected to be manufactured by Inventec with initial shipments to reach 60,000-70,000 units. The Google Chrome notebook will feature an ARM-based platform and will not be selling through retail channels.
Laptop Deals at Amazon for September
Amazon currently has a number of laptop deals for the month of September in its store. There are currently 18 laptop discounts available on the ASUS range which include the Republic of Gamers model, UL30 and a number of other variants.
As for discounts available, expect to see some with a 19% discount which knocks over $150 off some of the laptops. [Read more…]
Next-Gen NVIDIA ION GPU has 10x Faster Graphics
NVIDIA have announced a new NVIDIA ION GPU that potentially can deliver graphics up to 10 times faster and still retain a battery life on the netbook of 10 hours.
The new GPU’s use what is called NVIDIA Optimus technology that allows the netbook to “vastly outperform basic netbook graphics by delivering rich HD media in games, movies, and Internet-based video.”
Netbooks are traditionally known as being a little on the slow side when it comes to most things, but by using one of the NVIDIA ION GPU’s in there, it totally transforms the netbook allowing it to playback HD video without jitter as well as play games such as World of Warcraft without problem. Intel Atom N455 and N475 Spotted
Over at CeBIT a couple of new Intel Atom processors for Netbooks were spotted called the Intel Atom N455 and Intel Atom N475. Intel have yet to announce these two newly spotted processors even though the announcement was made/released on Saturday regarding the Intel Atom N470.
From what we understand about the two new versions, the Atom N455 looks to be an update to the Intel Atom N450 and the Atom N475 looks to be an update of the Atom N470. It is believed that both will run at the same 1.66GHz and 1.83GHz that the previous models run at with the only difference being that there is support for DDR3 memory instead. [Read more…]
Intel Atom N470 Processor Announced
The Intel Atom N470 has been officially announced. The announcement appears to have come a little early as the document is dated the 1st March. On to the details…
The Intel Atom N470 is a step up from the Intel Atom N450 CPU and runs at 1.83GHz along with housing 512Kb of L2 Cache. DDR2 667 memory is also supported by the new N470 CPU. Intel claim that the performance has been improved in the way of speed which is almost .2GHz quicker and it has been designed with more efficiency too which could further increase battery life on devices such as Netbooks that run it. The Atom N470 also has built in graphics allowing another performance boost for the netbooks it sits in.
It is unknown at the moment which OEM’s are signing up for the Atom N470 CPU, but Intel do say that major OEM’s are signing up which we assume will be the likes of ASUS, Samsung and all other companies who currently run the Intel Atom N450’s. [Read more…]
New Intel Atom Processors Announced
Intel have announced a new range of Intel Atom processors for the next generation of netbooks. The new Atom processors will come with integrated graphics and memory controllers allowing for power reduction along with performance improvements.
The new processors are being made available in netbooks from ASUS, Acer, Dell, Toshiba, Fujitsu, Lenovo, Samsung and MSI that will be shown off at CES in a couple of weeks time. The new processors have a 20% reduction in power usage and are also smaller too allowing for longer life on battery as well as smaller netbooks to be created.

Compaq CQ61 hits Orange UK
As well as introducing the ASUS Eee 1005HGO netbook on to their network, Orange also are offering the Compaq CQ61 notebook along with a dongle for mobile web browsing.
The Compaq CQ61 notebook is available with a number of data plans ranging from 18 to 24 months. However, unlike the Asus 1005HGO, most plans need you to pay a fee up front to get this notebook. Prices start at £29.36 on a 1GB 18 month contract, but you will need to pay £130 for the notebook. If you pay about £35/month on a 24 month contract then you can get the notebook for free. Samsung Go going to AT&T
Samsung announced today that they are launching the Samsung Go on to the AT&T network on November 22.
The Samsung Go is a netbook that has access to the AT&T network and runs the Windows 7 Starter Edition operating system. The Samsung netbook it’s self weighs 2.8lbs making it fairly light weight. The screen is backlit by LED and measures 10.1″ and has a WSVGA format displaying 1024 x 600 pixels. [Read more…]
