It is also believed Apple made an advanced payment for the displays.

The current capacity is 48,000 substrates per month at this particular factory and it isn’t clear how many screens can be made from each substrate. By the end of the year, the number is expected to ramp up to 100,000 substrates per month.

Android Market Catching Apple App Store in Size

In the next few months, it’s expected that the amount of apps available in the Android Market will overtake those available in the Apple App Store. The date this will happen will more than likely fall in August 2011 if the current trends continue.

By August, Google will have around 425,000 apps in the store available for download. What is important to note with this is that although there will be more apps available, it doesn’t necessarily mean that Android apps will make more money for developers.

White iPhone 4 Removed from the Apple Database

It’s been about 9 months since Apple announced the White iPhone 4. We have still not seen it launch though and it appears now that Apple might not be launching this device.

The reason we think it might not be launched is that Apple updated the Apple Store yesterday and when it came back up, the only thing changed was the iPhone 4 (in white) being taken off the site. [Read more…]

Apple Patent Reveals a Hybrid DisplayPort/USB 3.0 Connector

Apple has won a patent for a new hybrid 30-pin/USB 3.0 connector that could be used for high-speed transfer to and from an iPhone. The connector looks similar to a regular Apple 30-pin connector, but rather than connecting to just a USB 2.0 port, the new one will be capable of connecting to USB 3.0. We also hear that this could include Thunderbolt for high speed data transfers.

Yet this latest hybrid connector looks like a winner and one that we might see come to market later this year in handhelds or in 2012 when Intel Macs debut with USB 3.0. But let’s be honest here: Wouldn’t we all like to see this debut on the iPhone 5? Hmm, I think that I’m hearing a thunderous yes on that question.
