Today, Apple [AAPL] announced some statistics about the company. Number included the amount of iOS devices being shipped, activated as well as details about the app store and iTunes.

Apple [AAPL] had a big line up of product launches today. One of them was the Apple TV that attempts to revamp the older Apple TV service.
Design wise, the Apple TV is 80 percent smaller than the previous model which launched in 2006. The new version has a built in power supply, HDMI, Wifi and an Ethernet port. It has no fan inside making it run completely silent.
Rather than having storage built in, the Apple TV streams content whenever you need it. This is why it has both wireless N built in or an Ethernet cable for those who prefer the wired approach. Apple [AAPL] is holding an event today at 10am PDT. For the many people who cannot make it, but would like to watch events as they happen, Apple will be broadcasting the event over a Live Stream.
The live stream from what we understand, will only work on Apple devices such as the iPhone, iPad or a Mac running Safari and OS X 10.6. It “might” work on Windows based computers, but for some reason Apple do mention specifics in their press release. [Read more…]
It seems like Apple [AAPL] have finally managed to catch up with demand for the Apple iPad. All six versions of the iPad are now listed on the Apple site as shipping within 24 hours. Previously it had been around a 2 – 3 week shipping date from what we remember.
Prices have stayed exactly the same and probably will for a few more months, if not till the launch of the iPad 2 next year. [Read more…]
Apple has released a new version of the iWork productivity suite. The new version is iWork 9.0.4 that is available for download today.
New features included with the update include some big fixes for the Keynote, Pages and Numbers software. Also the update brings the ability to export Pages documents in the ePub format so that content can be copied over to the iBooks app that is available for the iPhone running iOS 4 and the iPad. Apple [AAPL] is holding an event on September 1 to launch some “music related” gadgets and services. It is expected that the new iPod touch 4 will be launched along with iTV and potentially 99 cent TV show downloads.

Over in Japan, Sharp is testing a new ordering system for restaurants that allows customers to use an iPad to order food rather than a traditional paper/card menu.
The system is being built for Izakaya Japanese-style restaurants.
The system works by loading up an app that displays everything that’s on offer in the restaurant. The guests seated at tables can then easily pick and choose what quantities of food they want. We assume that paying via iPad will also be possible. [Read more…]
Apple [AAPL] could be launching a new iMac called the iMac touch. This information comes from a patent that was found that shows an iMac being used with both a touchscreen and a keyboard as represented in the drawings above and below.
The patents also suggest that Apple could be using a dual mode OS system where OS X is used when the screen is upright and iOS when the touch interface is enabled.
Imagine having an iMac on your desktop one minute and a gigantic iPad the next. Imagine playing iGames on this dream machine – Wow! Imagine reading a double-page book on this – Unbelievable! Apple takes the mystery out of how OS X could finally co-exist with iOS on a Mac and you’ve got to see this one to believe it.
Apple [AAPL] is rumoured to be holding a media event on September 7. At the event it is expected that Apple will announced a new iPod touch 4, Apple TV (perhaps called iTV although a problem for the UK) and we hope that some details of iOS 4 for iPad will be announced.
The new iPod touch 4 is believed to follow the lines of the iPhone 4 in that it will have a front facing camera and perhaps a retina display. The Apple TV is rumoured to go on sale for $99 and mention of a 99 cent TV show rental service is doing the rounds at the moment. [Read more…]
If you think using an Apple Magic Trackpad with batteries is a waste of energy and time (as in charging time) then this USB power hack could work for you.
The hack uses a battery sized adapter that feeds the trackpad with the juice it needs to run. A cable runs out of the side of the battery compartment and on to a USB port to get 5V of power.
There’s a couple of problems with it though. First is that it seems a shame to hack up a Magic Trackpad like that. If you can get over that little design issue then the other problem is that a USB port provides 5 volts and the Magic Trackpad needs about 3. [Read more…]
Apple [AAPL] has won a patent for a couple of software features found in iOS.
The first is in relation to the “Slide to Unlock” bar that is found when you switch on an iPad, iPhone or iPod touch. The second is in relation to the character-pop on the virtual keyboard that Apple uses.
What it basically all means is that you can’t copy Apple by creating a Slide to Unlock that looks like the version that Apple uses. Also you cannot create a keyboard with popping characters like shown in the diagram above. [Read more…]
