Older generation iPhones get Video Recording

iPhone-camcorder-appIf you own a first or second generation Apple iPhone, your phone will now be capable of recording video without any hacking. Up until now the only way to get video recording on an iPhone or an iPhone 3G was to jailbreak the phone and install software that wasn’t approved by Apple. Thanks to Apple releasing details on the API regarding video capture, official applications can now be made that are compatible with the older phones.

Ustream is one of the first applications that allows video recording officially on older iPhones. Ustream is a video streaming application that is free to download. As well as being able to stream with the software it also has the ability to work as a video recorder too allowing you to capture movies from the camera. [Read more…]

iphone4-conceptWe have heard a few rumours about an iPhone 4 being launched in 2010. One of the rumours started just a few weeks ago when a label called iPhone 3,1 was spotted in some statistics software. When spotted, 3,1 was an unknown designation and I believe this is still the case.

Reports are going around today that say Foxconn have taken an order for the next generation of iPhones, perhaps the iPhone 4. The company already makes the iPhone for Apple, and word from Cupertino said to start preparing the next batch of iPhones. [Read more…]

Orange iPhone – 30,000 Units Sold on Launch Day

orange-iphoneYesterday saw the launch of the Apple [AAPL] iPhone on to the Orange network in the UK. The launch came as the O2 exclusive contract came to an end. Reports show that launch day went well with Orange shifting over 30,000 units on the first day.

The amount of phones sold sets a record for the Orange network and as O2 have been the only company allowed to sell the iPhone it must make Orange happy that they can now get in on the iPhone.

In the next few months we will see the Vodafone network starting to offer the iPhone in the UK which will also increase competition on the device. Orange was partly criticised recently for being too tight with their unlimited (limited) download of 750MB/month although with iPhone sales hitting a record for Orange it seems that either people do not know about the 750MB limit, or that they are not too fussed. Quad-Core 27″ iMac’s Now Shipping

iMac-27-inch-quad-coreJust a few weeks ago Apple [AAPL] launched a new range of iMac’s that have screen sizes of 21.5″ and 27″. A number of new configuration options were also announced which includes a new Core i5 and i7 quad-core Intel processor. Although lower spec models have already been shipping, we now hear that the quad-core versions have also started to ship.

Putting a more powerful processor in your new iMac isn’t cheap though. For the standard spec quad-core (Core i5) the cost is $1999 which of course can further increase if you decide to go for more than the standard 4GB of RAM. If you opt for the Core i7 then add another $200 to the base cost of the machine. [Read more…]

O2 to Unlock iPhone from November 10

o2-official-iphone-unlockMatthew Key of O2 has confirmed that Apple [AAPL] iPhones on the O2 network that are out of contract or over a year old for PAYG will be able to have them unlocked so they can be used on any network.

For those out of contract the unlock service will be free, whereas those with a PAYG iPhone over a year old will need to pay £14.97 for the service.

There is absolutely no truth in that rumour. Once the iPhone becomes available on other UK networks, we will allow O2 customers to unlock their iPhones, although of course they will still need to honour any outstanding contract period they have. At the end of their contract period, they are entirely free to move to another operator though naturally we hope they won’t want to!
