Google Nexus One – A Sales Failure?

It appears that the Google Nexus One might actually be a sales failure looking at the chart above (larger version below). It is estimated that just 135,000 devices have been shipped in the first 74 days. Compare that to the likes of the Motorola DROID and the iPhone which hit around the 1 million mark things look quite bad for the Nexus One.

The amount of days (74) was decided on because of Apple [AAPL] first announcing that in those opening days of the iPhone going on sale they shifted 1 million units in that time. The other two figures are actually calculated on using stats from a company called Flurry who track app’s installed on devices (UDID’s). [Read more…]

Autotrader iPhone Application Launched

AutoTrader have launched a new app for the Apple iPhone called the Autotrader iPhone App (UK version) that allows you to capture a picture of a licence plate which is then scanned in by the application to find the make and model of the car. Once done you have access to details on that particular model of car such as how it performs as well as reviews.

Another cool option in the application is the ability to scan through local listings of used and new cars that match the make and model allowing you to find a car nearby.

As well as being able to find reviews, performance details and new/used cars in the local area for sale, the application also gives information on how much the car costs on average around the area. [Read more…]

JooJoo Tablet hits the FTC

The FCC has taken a look at the JooJoo tablet and as well as giving it a thorough check over to make sure it complies with certain standards, they also have a picture of the inside as well as the details of what powers the device.

Just yesterday we heard about the JooJoo tablet getting a user interface makeover making it look a little bit more attractive to use. This new user interface mixed with the revealed hardware specs make it appear to be quite an impressive machine.

The JooJoo runs an NVIDIA Ion along with an Intel Atom N270 CPU. We also hear there is integrated 3G built in which was contrary to reports heard before. The worrying thing is that the JooJoo appears to run standard hardware and if not optimised just right, we could see that NVIDIA Ion chip suck a lot of power out of the battery making it a lot lower than it’s main competitor the Apple iPad (which just became available for pre-order in the last hour). Portable Computers as Powerful as PS3 to arrive in 3 Years

Imagination Technologies are responsible for creating the PowerVR chip that runs in phones such as the iPhone, DROID as well as others. They believe that in three years time they will have a chip that will bring the power of Playstation 3 graphics to pocket sized devices.

The reason they actually believe (or know it) is due to the fact that the chip is already being designed and due to waiting for licensing, and bringing the chip in to publicly available phones (which takes 3 years) they know that 720p HD will be available with an output to TV that has PS3 capable graphics. Perhaps mini screens will also be cable of 720p at that time too. [Read more…]

Samsung Super AMOLED Screen Explained

A video has been uploaded to Youtube that gives a visual representation of how Samsungs Super AMOLED screen works and why it gets clear and more vibrant image quality.

The reason why Samsung can call their AMOLED screen Super is that they have done away with the touch layer and embedded it in the screen. The touch sensors are integrated in to the display rather than being over the top of the screen which normally acts as a filter. [Read more…]

iPhone Tekken Confirmed

With the launch of Streetfighter IV for the iPhone and iPod Touch, along comes the news that another classic is heading to the Apple iPhone and iPod Touch. This time Tekken is going to be launched by Namco. When speaking with Pocket Gamer about iPhone Tekken, the anonymous source said that the game was far along in development and looking good.

To paraphrase, “the game is being finished up and it plays rather nicely.”

As of now it is not known if the game was started from scratch, or if it’s just an update to a PSP version that was launched a while back but either way it should run fantastic when launched on the iPhone 3G and 3G S. [Read more…]

ASUS Eee Pad – iPad Killer?

When Apple created the iPhone it seemed to be the benchmark for what other phones should at least be like. Each time a new smartphone was launched people asked if it would be an “iPhone Killer”.

Of course with the launch of the Apple iPad in a few weeks it seems companies are now wanting to create “iPad Killers”. ASUS are said to be pretty confident with their ASUS Eee Pad creation and believe that the iPad from Apple [AAPL] offers nothing that the Eee Pad cannot achieve. Eric Chen, the VP of ASUS Systems Business Group has said that the iPad is nothing but a big iPhone and due to that, the iPad won’t be able to command the same market share that the iPhone has achieved. Sony PSP Phone Rumored Again

Wall Street Journal today reported that Sony are planning to take on Apple [AAPL] this year by releasing a much rumoured Sony PSP smartphone.

As well as launching a Sony PSP Phone, rumours about a netbook/eBook type reader/PSP combo were also mentioned that would be aimed at competing with the Apple iPad along with an on-line service to download media such as music, video and games from an online store. [Read more…]

Mobile Phone Patent Attack Details

You might think that Apple going after HTC over 20 patents was what it was all about, but when you look at the bigger picture you can see that everybody seems like they are after everybody for various legal reasons.

The chart above (and larger below) shows who is after who at the moment with Cisco attacking Apple, Apple attacking HTC, ELAN, Nokia and Kodak going for Apple and a whole lot in between.

According to the NY Times, these sorts of patent disputes are not uncommon although a few larger cases we have heard of recently have shed a little more interest from the media in to what’s going on. [Read more…]

AT&T Motorola Backflip Android Phone Ships With Yahoo Search

AT&T are about to launch the Motorola Backflip in the next few days. What we are now hearing is that AT&T are going to be dropping Google Search from the Android install replacing it with Yahoo Search. This is the first time we have heard of a Google [GOOG] Android handset not using Google Search by default.

The reason AT&T can do this is because Android is an open platform that allows them to make changes as needed to suit the phones launching on their network. We just didn’t expect that AT&T would drop a core search feature.

We don’t know the full reasons why they would switch the search to Yahoo! and perhaps they are trying to keep Apple [AAPL] happy by keeping google away from their Android phones, but anything right now is just pure speculation. [Read more…]
