HP Hurricane Tablet to be based on webOS

Several months ago, Microsoft [MSFT] and HP announced that the HP Slate was to launch this year. The device was designed to run Windows 7 and was set to be a large competitor in the tablet arena. Just last week, HP announced that they had shelved the HP Slate which was rumoured to be because of HP buying Palm and potentially a webOS tablet being built.

It appears that Verizon [VZ] are not going to be getting the Apple iPhone on their network this year thanks to Apple [AAPL] extending the exclusive agreement until the start of 2011.

Reasons for the extension are believed to be the way AT&T handled the Apple iPad 3G subscription charges and pricing structure.

The deal is claimed to have happened as follows…

AT&T had to do something dramatic to get the iPad. [AT&T’s negotiated a 50% discount on iPad data plans with Apple] For that pricing, AT&T was able to negotiate a six-month extension on the iPhone exclusive.

Android Tablet Spotted in Android Booth at Web 2.0 Expo

Over at Web 2.0 Expo in San Francisco, Adobe had a stand of products available that heavily pushed the Google [GOOG] Android platform. Zedomax was able to get a good look at various products including some very early tablets still in early form in that it was a circuit board with a screen attached encased in a transparent plastic.

The OS running on the tablets is believed to be Android 2.1 that ran Adobe Flash and Air apps. According to Zedomax, these ran completely flawlessly and were impressive enough to encourage the suggestion of holding off getting an Apple iPad and waiting till later this year for a slew of Android tablets to be launched.

It runs Adobe’s Flash and Air apps flawlessly. That was the first time I saw Adobe’s Air apps running on a tablet and totally impressed by how it ran. And now I can understand why Apple wants to ban Flash and other Adobe products completely from their iPhones and iPads, because it’s rather incredible technology.
