Apple Patent Hints at Slimmer iPhone Future

Apple has filed an interesting patent that suggests they could be looking at using the regular 3.5mm and 2.5mm headphone/headset jacks, but also hints that the connection port could one day be thicker than the device its self.

The iPhone 4 measures 9.3mm in thickness and the new iPad 2 measures 8.8mm. Both of these form factors can easily fit a 3.5mm headphone jack. The problem will come in the future though as Apple find ways to slim down the next generation devices. At some point, they will get close to or slimmer than 3.5mm and when that happens, you’d think that they would just use a proprietary connection rather than standard. [Read more…]

Apple to Give $100 Refund For Recent iPad Purchases

If you didn’t realise a new iPad was coming out and went ahead and purchased a first gen iPad in the last few days, you will soon be eligible for a refund of $100, £100 or 100 depending on what region you purchased it in.

The refund period is believed to cover the last 2 weeks up till yesterday when the priced dropped by £100 on each model in the UK. To get the refund you need to contact the store where you purchased the iPad from. If you ordered online, you need to call Apple to claim the refund. [Read more…]

Apple Drop the iPad Price in the UK

Apple has dropped the price of the original iPad in the UK which now gives you the option to pick up the tablet with a price starting at £329.

Each model looks to have dropped £100 in price from the original which sees the original iPad priced as follows:

WiFi Only
£329 – 16GB
£399 – 32GB
£479 – 64GB

WiFi and 3G
£429 – 16GB
£499 – 32GB

Apple NC Datacenter for iTunes and MobileMe

During the annual shareholders meeting yesterday, Apple [AAPL] was asked about the datacenter being built in Norch Carolina. In response, Apple said that the new datacenter was to be used for both iTunes and MobileMe services.

This new datacenter, that opens within days, will start offering services for iTunes/MobileMe sometime later this year. Apple also commented that this is the second datacenter that they own with the other one being in Newark, California. [Read more…]

Apple Store Down – As Expected

As expected, Apple [AAPL] has taken down the Apple store in various countries. The store went down this morning and is expected to be down for the next couple of hours.

When the store loads back up, we expect to see details of the new MacBook Pro range included and at a push… a white iPhone 4? We doubt the latter, but the former of the two is certainly expected. [Read more…]

Apple Could Roll Out ‘Joint Venture’ Service

Apple [AAPL] has scheduled a staff meeting for retail employees to be held on February 27. Attendance at the meeting requires that all staff sign an NDA from what sources say.

What can be expected at this meeting is that Apple could announce Joint Venture which is a service that could bring Apple Geniuses in to the homes of prosumers as well as to small businesses. The service would also be offered one-to-one over the phone if needed.

Apple Could Make White iPhone 5

Although we are still yet to see an official White iPhone 4 arrive, we are now hearing hints that Apple is already looking forward to the White iPhone 5. The leak this time comes from sources who spoke to the Economic Daily News who have hinted that Wintek has been asked to supply touch panels for a white iPhone 5 to Apple. Apple Could Introduce New High-Speed Connector

Apple is expected to soon announce a high-speed connector based on Intel Light Peak technology. The Intel Light Peak system allows data to be transmitted at high speed over copper wires and in the future, copper will be replaced with fiber-optic.

It is believed that the high-speed connector that Apple introduce will use the Light Peak technology, but not use that as the name for it, ie: they will work with Intel and launch it under a different name. [Read more…]

Apple Could Offer a Cheaper iPhone

Large publications have recently received information that hints at a smaller iPhone launching this year, along with a regular sized device. We now hear from the NYT that the smaller phone wont be coming any time soon, but instead, the next generation iPhone will actually be cheaper.

Instead of making a cheaper iPhone that is smaller, it appears that Apple is looking at lowering the cost of the parts, hopefully not the quality, to get the price tag down. [Read more…]

Apple iPhone 5 to Get Improved Battery Life

The next generation iPhone, iPad and iPod touch could see a boost in battery life, thanks to some work being done by Apple. The company has filed a patent to which they describe a battery with a higher cell density. The patent is entitled “Increasing Energy Density in Rechargeable Lithium Battery Cells” and attempts to slightly alter how the battery works. [Read more…]

Apple Takes 60 Percent of Global Touch Panel Capacity

Reports indicate that Apple has managed to secure 60 percent of the global touch screen capacity and in turn, could possibly create shortages for the rest of the industry.
