Ian Barlow of Mozilla has provided a quick glimpse of what Firefox for Tablets will look like when it launches. When used on a smartphone the company tried to hide away a lot of the navigation to keep as much of the screen available for the web page you are viewing. Due to tablets having a larger screen, this has allowed the company to use some of that space for navigational purposes.

Samsung Super AMOLED HD Coming Soon

In the next few months we could start to see smartphones that have screens measuring 5 to 6 inches in size. These new devices will use AMOLED HD screens created by Samsung that are capable of showing HD resolutions. The first device expected, according to OLED Info, is the GT-I9220 which will use a 5.3 inch screen. 7 inch tables with the same AMOLED HD screens will also begin to arrive at the end of this year.

Blackberry Bold 9900 Release Date for Vodafone Revealed

Vodafone has announced the release date of the BlackBerry Bold 9900 smartphone. The release date is August 16 and it will begin shipping on that date for those who pre-order the device.

iCloud Pricing Revealed

When Apple announced iOS 5, they also announced a new service called iCloud. iCloud allows the iPhone and iPad to connect up seamlessly to the internet to store backups of your phone as well as documents, apps and music. The service will come with a free allowance of 5GB for each username. When Apple announced iCloud they also mentioned that for those going over the 5GB limit there would be an option of paying for more space. The prices have now been revealed.

Apple has rolled out a new version of iOS 5 to developers. The latest version is beta 3 which brings iOS 5 a step closer to being launched as a final product. The new version brings a number of new features such as more in-depth gestures for accessibility purposes.

Microsoft Windows 8 Unveiled

Yesterday at D9, Microsoft unveiled Windows 8. Windows 8 is designed for a range of devices from those that have just a touchscreen and are small (think smartphone/tablet) all the way up to large screen devices with or without a keyboard and mouse.

Microsoft has departed from the usual Windows look and feel in some ways by using a more interactive user interface.

iRemoco RC iOS Controlled Helicopter Launching

iRemoco is an RC helicopter that is controlled by an iPad, iPhone or iPod touch. The kit comes with a radio device that connects to the 30 pin dock connector on your iOS device. When connected, you load up an app and can then be used to fly an RC helicopter around with either two on-screen analogue controls, or by a single control and motion to move the helicopter around a room.

The app also can be used to switch between three different frequencies so that up to three helicopters can be used at the same time.

Apple Could use Samsung AMOLED Screen on iPad 3

The iPad 3 could be launched with an AMOLED screen according to one report today. Apple COO/acting CEO Tim Cook made a visit to South Korea last week and a suggestion has been made that he visited one of the Samsung factories (Gen-5.5). It is also believed Apple made an advanced payment for the displays.

The current capacity is 48,000 substrates per month at this particular factory and it isn’t clear how many screens can be made from each substrate. By the end of the year, the number is expected to ramp up to 100,000 substrates per month.

AGC Create 0.1mm Thin Glass for TFT and OLED Screens

AGC has created new glass that measures just 0.1mm thin. The glass can be used for either OLED or TFT-LCD screens.

Alkali-free glass, composed mainly of silicon dioxide, boron oxide and aluminum oxide, is free of alkaline elements such as sodium and potassium, and is used widely as substrates for TFT-LCD and OLED.

Camera+ App Hits 2 Million Sales – Sales Figures Detailed

The team behind the iPhone Camera+ app, Tap Tap Tap, have just hit the 2 million sales mark for the said app. Along with hitting that milestone, we also see details of how quick the app got there, including charts as well as details about in-app purchases and how quick people upgrade to new versions of the app.

Camera+ is on version 2.2 now, which launched last week with a new feature called Clarity. With that update, the company also saw the 2 million apps mark being hit. The speed at which the company went from 1 million downloads to 2 million was quick, just under 3 months from what we hear. [Read more…]

Apple WWDC Scheduled for June 6 in SF

Apple has announced that WWDC2010 (Worldwide Developers Conference), will be going ahead on June 6. What we expect to see at the event is an announcement of the iPhone 5 (4GS) to the world, just like the iPhone 4 was announced last year.

The event will be held in San Franisco at Moscone West and will be running for five days in total. Information presented at the event will include details of iOS as well as Mac OS and in specific, the future of these operating systems. We expect Apple to announce iOS 5 at this event. [Read more…]
