The LG KH1000 is a new handset to hit the market. It is a HDSPA enabled slider phone which has a 2.2 inch widescree TFT screen. A built in 1.3 mega pixel camera. 2GB flash memory with 1GB SDRAM. Something that grabbed my attention is the video conferencing ability. It has a hefty price tag but seems like a powerful device with nice amounts of built in memory to justify that.

WirelessHD

WirelessHD is set for a launch in 2008. WirelessHD works on the idea of having everything connected together without cables. Just looking around the back of my TV shows that this idea is great. I have several cables behind my TV and without touching them they get tangled and look a mess.
WirelessHD is a joint venture between LG, Panasonic, NEC, Samsung, SiBEAM, Sony and Toshiba. It is named WirelessHD or WiHD and it is intended to enable high definition audio and video streaming to consumer electronic devices. The system will run on the 60Ghz frequencies and data transmit speeds are supposed to be incredible. This in turn will create point to point display for HDMI and DVI.
More details will follow as they arrive.

iPod Rumours
A number of rumours and drawings of touch screen iPods have been going around the internet for a while now. Apple announced recently that 2007 will be their biggest year for devices. The iPod touch screen is one such rumour which methodshop even posted some iPod patent pictures early on this year.

Along with this rumour is more news (rumour) which say the touch screen iPod will have a wide screen aspect ratio unlike it’s would be competitor from MS, the Zune. If iPod do go ahead with this and rumours are true then the Zune is doomed. Well, maybe anyway 😉
A quote from someone anonymous…
‘In a very matter of fact tone I was told that the product was not designed for the current generation of device, but the official 6G iPod¦ which is to be released in December. His company’s device only comes onto the market shortly before then and would benefit hugely because the new iPod would sport a screen that filled the full side of the device and consequently offer higher resolution video¦ This is why Jobs isn’t afraid of the Zune,’ he said, though he had no knowledge of whether wireless would make an appearance.

How Blu-Ray and HD Discs are Made
Imation have put together a nice movie called “Into The Blue” which shows the process of how HD and Blu-Ray discs are created. Check out the clip at the link below.
LaCie Biometric Drive
LaCie have created a Biometric Drive which has some good encryption built in. It’s an external USB hard drive with a finger print scanner built in. The data is encrypted and it takes 3 succesful swipes of the same finger to allow unencrypted access to the drive. It’s a great idea because anything portable can go missing. The cost of the device is often not even a fraction of the value of what data is stored in it and loosing data can cause headaches because of not knowing who is looking at it.

The biometric reader is Triple DES enabled and is compatible with both the MAC and PC.
The verdict: If you need to feel secure with your data on the go, the LaCie SAFE Mobile USB Hard Drive will do just that, but with costly tradeoffs.

BodyGard Micro Tool
The BodyGard micro tool is a keychain unit which can help you in several critical situations where you need to get out of your car. In the extremly compact device there is a glass breaker, seat belt cutter, 140dB panic alarm, bright flashing LED and an emergency red flashing light. Sounds cool. I want to try the glass smasher 🙂

When trapped in a vehicle you just strike the base of the device against the glass which releases a spring loaded steel pin. It will not release accidently. There is an attachment which uncovers the cutter to get you out of the seat belt if stuck.
The bodygard tool glows in the dark and is water resistant.

It isnt going to the market yet as it’s a concept device, but I will be getting my self one when it does 🙂

McDonalds MP3 Spyware Give Away
McDonalds, the food giant, had a promotion to give away free MP3 players which unfortunatly turned out that they were riddled with spyware. Oops. This all began in Japan when a text to win competition was running. You would text in a code written on your drink and if you were one of the “unlucky” 10000 winners then you received a nice bit of spyware. The MP3 players were Mac branded DAP with 10 tunes loaded. Unfortunatly these were infected with QQpass.

McDonalds have apologised and have set up a support line for those who need information on how to get rid of the spyware. It makes you wonder where this came from. Surely it wasnt MC’D’s who did this! Well, in my opinion I doubt they knew about this at all till it came to light.
