Ball and Magnet Watch – The 900 Abacus

abacus_watch_silver
Watches are getting very interesting over the last few years which LED watches becoming quite popular from Tokyo Flash. Often they are made from slightly different materials to get a sleek look. The latest I came across was the 900 Abacus watch which uses a ball and magnet to tell the time. There are no hands or numbers on the watch. To tell the time you take a look at the magnetic sphere which moves around the face. The sphere is not fastened down and when you walk around the sphere moves around freely under the glass till you hold the watch flat. At this point the sphere rolls to the correct time. As it only has 1 sphere, it only tells time by hours which means you need to roughly estimate how many minutes past the hour it is.

The watch is also water resistant down to 30 meters.

The watch prices will start just short of $150 with more information available at Questodesign.

Custom PSP Touchscreen

PSP Touchscreen
The PSP has been subject to a number of mods and hacks over the last couple of years. Most of it (if not all) has been down to software and the running of homebrew software. The latest hack is the PSP touchscreen which was created over at Spark Fun Electronics. The PSP touchscreen is a layer that sits above the screen which senses when it is touched. Match this up with an interface and you have a fully fledged touch screen PSP. The screen overlay touchscreen costs just $23.95. There is no mention of compatible software yet and I am sure some kind of homebrew will need to be used to make use of it. Hopefully we will see something soon.

Tank Limousine – You can Hire it

Tank Limo

Tank for Rental

If you have a special occasion coming up and you want something cool and different to do then Tank Limo has the answer. They used to cruise around the UK in pink Abbot which was a tank, painted pink and a bit of an eye catcher. The problem with that tank is that only a few people could fit in it. Along came a new project which took parts from 30 different tanks they had laying around. They removed a few parts such as a mine layer, painted it gloss white, installed a couple of DVD players and a fridge and totally kitted out the interior. It looks quite cool and definitely a tad different from the usual limos you see driving around on a Friday and Saturday night in the UK. One more pic after the jump.

Fuwapica Chair

fuwapica chair
This chair is built by a Japanese firm and is called the Fuwapica Chair. What makes it stand out against most other chairs is that it has the ability to change colour depending on how much weight it is carrying. When a heavy person sits on the chair it turns a darker red. I am not sure who would ever want to sit on a chair like this as it would reveal your weight and could be very embarrassing.

I cant see this one catching on too quick.

Foot Mouse

footmouse and keys
This mouse and key set can be controlled by your feet. It allows hands free operation of the mouse cursor and can speed up production time in the office. Included in the set is a foot slipper type device in which you put your foot, and on the other side you have several programmable keys which can perform various tasks.

I am unsure at the moment where this mouse is available from as the source did not mention it. However, it was still worth mentioning on gadgetvenue.

Cool Looking Laser Clock

laser clock
When laser pens started becoming popular several years ago they were the thing to have. I remember getting one for 3 quid in Paris and it could project different shapes on to the wall depending what tiny lens was screwed on to the end of it. Now they have just introduced the Laser Clock which projects the actual time on to any surface. I have to admit that I do not know if its actually a laser clock, or just a bright red LED… either way its kind of cool.

You can pick one of the Laser Clocks up from Dynamism for $29.99.

Cool RC Planes

RC Concorde

Scale RC Models

RC planes, helicopters and cars are cool. I have seen a few RC planes and jets, but not actually seen scale models of real planes such as RC 747s, RC Concordes and others. Over at funny pictures you will see a bunch of planes that have been made, scaled down and actually being flown around.

Ambient Umbrella tells you the Weather

ambient umbrella

Umbrella tells you if you need to use it

With the weather not knowing what it is doing most of the time, it is handy to have one of these ambient umbrellas. On the handle is a ring of LEDs which glow according to the weather. The umbrella picks up the weather reports via a wireless network, GSM I believe, and just a glance at the handle of the umbrella can indicate if you should think about taking it with you for the day. Its not a bad idea, although predicting the weather is still questionable… so I guess they have preventions in place to stop you taking legal action when you get soaked when it told you it would be dry.
