This dash comes from Nippon Seiki and is called the Wide Vision. It is a screen behind the clocks on the dash which can show a ton more details then your normal speed, RPM etc… Night vision is included as well as rear view cameras. Check out the video over at Gizmodo to see what it’s all about.

Sandisk have launched the Sansa TakeTV video player. The TakeTV is a flash memory based device which when cradled has AV outputs compatible with your TV. The idea here is that you download video from your computer on to the TakeTV and then can watch the video on regular TV’s which have AV inputs. The launch of the TakeTV also see’s a beta release of Fanfare which is a service you can use to download video to your device. Formats supported are DivX, XVID and MPEG-4. The USB port works with both 1.1 and 2.0 and 2 models are available which are the 4GB model and 8GB model costing $99 and $149.99.

Vice Versa is a clock which only has hands. It is designed by Yiran Qian from China and was a shortlisted entry for the brightLED competition. As can be seen, the hands rotate around an axis like any other clock, but the numbers are built from LED’s on the end of the hands which gives them the appearance of being stationary as the hands move around. However, the clock is currently concept although it would be cool if it was actually built.

Rumours have been floating around about Microsoft Windows Mobile 6.1. The pencilled in date is for May 2008. The main feature seems to be the layout and how the menu’s all work. The menu’s are believed to work similar to the Treo 500v which uses a carousel type menu where you can move left and right between menus and then up and down those menus to choose the action. According to MS this allows a thinking along the lines of “what do I want to do today?”. As well as a new layout (if rumours are true) then you will also see better WiFi, Exchange integration and Bluetooth.
I literally in the past couple of weeks picked up my first WM6 device and I do hope that this will come as a free upgrade. If not, I am still happy with my current version and no complaints there 😉

For those of you with an entertaining streak running through you, check out the iKaraoke which is designed to be attached to the bottom docking port on your iPod. It allows you to sing along to the latest tunes you just downloaded, or to sing out loud through your iPod playing over loud speakers. All you need now is some funky words displaying across the screen and you have a fully fledged pocket sized karaoke player.

Light Emitting Wallpaper is a cool concept idea created by Jonas Samson. The wallpaper is embedded with lights and can light up to give “mood lighting” in your home. When not needed, the lights can be switched off leaving just the regular wallpaper on the wall. What would make it more interesting is if the pattern could be customised by controlling individual pixels/LED’s? Heck, you could even connect it to your PC via Wifi and download patterns to it.

Before you ask, I have not got a stutter. The Water ButtButt is called that because it’s a water butt, that is actually a butt. It was designed by Gerardine and Wayne Hemingway who wanted something more contemporary. To be politically correct it has been made in 3 colours. It is fitted with a tap and can store 215 litres of water inside.

Hitachi have successfully scaled-down a key component in the hard drive down to nano-scale and this accomplishment allows for a 1 TB Laptop Hard Drive to be created. This breakthrough will allow hard drive capacities to quadruple in the next 4 years. For a desktop you can expect a hard drive to have a 4 Terabyte capacity with laptops and iPod’s having 1 Terabyte of storage. To give you an idea of what a Terabyte of information can store it would be equal to 1 million books, 250 hours of HD video or 250000 tunes. Quadruple that for the desktop sized hard drives and there you have an even more insane amount of storage space.
I can understand the need of such storage amounts in a business situation, but for personal use… I have barely broken the 20Gb mark and I bet half of that is just junk anyway. It is still an impressive accomplishment and although not needed right now, a 1 TB Laptop Hard Drive could well be needed in 4 years time when higher res photos will be stored, HD DVD’s will be stored and a lot more.

If holding your watch up in the light for a few minutes to make the hands glow is not enough, then the Reactor watch feature tritium-filled tubes which will keep the thing alight for around 10 years. The watch is named the Superluminova and recharges instantly with just a small amount of light which then keeps it illuminated for up to 10 years. That’s a long time and I sincerely hope you do not plan on staying in the dark for 10 years to test if it stays lit for that long.

The RADAR super mouse trap is capable of sending a text when it captures a mouse. It has infra red beams, a trick floor and a poisonous gas dispenser. When a mouse is detected a measured dost of gas is pumped out killing the mouse. Looking at the image I was expecting to see it is a concept device… but fear not, this thing is for real. Once the mouse is dead it also fires off a text message to you with an update of the mouse being killed. Seems a bit unfair for the mouse, but Rentokil say it’s a humane way of dealing with it. The Nike+ Amp is a watch from Nike which you use with your Nike+ iPod running kit. The watch allows you to get instant progress on your running distance, time, speed or calories burned.
It also works as a regular watch, with a durable polyurethane strap and LED’s whch tell the time in regular mode or display the iPod Nano’s controls when being used in Nike+ mode.
The watch is reasonably priced too at $80, which I think is good since it can be used as a regular watch too! It’s currently only available in USA, but hopefully it’ll be released in Europe soon.

By using 4 AA batteries, 1 CD, an empty Pepsi can, a playing card, tape roll and a dime you can make some kind of funky levitation device. From the information I can find, it uses discoveries found by John Hutchinson and the Casimir effect which according to sources, is related to resonance and physical forces between objects. I’m not even going to try understand all that as it isn’t the point of this post. Anyway, check out the video below and see the playing card and dime levitate before your eyes. If anyone can make on of these then feel free to post a video and I will post it here.
