ASUS ECleaner Robot Vacuum Revealed

A few robotic vacuums have shown up this last week with LG creating the RoboKing, Neato creating the Neato XV11 both of which are set to tackle the Roomba. ASUS have also revealed a new robot vacuum called the ECleaner which also is aimed at tackling the automatic home cleaning section of the market.

The ECleaner ads another feature to automated vacuuming by adding a 6000 hour UV light that is used to disinfect the floor and emit fragrances. [Read more…]

Acer Olympic Edition Notebooks Revealed

Acer are launching a number of Olympic edition notebook computers shortly that are built from othe Acer Aspire 1810T, 4810T, 1410 and G245H LCD devices. However, there isn’t too much to get excited about spec wise as the notebooks have exactly the same hardware specs.

The only difference with the Olympic edition notebooks is the 5 ring Olympic logo that will be put on the lid as well as the palm rest area of the devices. [Read more…]

Artopz ION-Based Nettops Revealed

If you are looking for a more stylish nettop for your home office then perhaps these new nettops from Artopz will be good for you. Artopz are a company based in San Diego and have created some NVIDIA ION based nettops that function both as a computer and a desk lamp. The desk lamp side of things is made possible by using fibre optic light panels.

Three designs of this nettop are being made available called Romanz, Lavaz and Deluxz and they have a 1.6GHz Intel Atom 330 dual-core CPU inside along with a nice amount of memory at 4GB along with a fast 128GB SSD.

Vodafone iPhone Tariffs Revealed

Vodafone have announced details of the Apple iPhone that will be coming to their network in the UK shortly. The iPhone will be made available on January 14th 2010.

Three iPhones are being made available on the network which includes the iPhone 3G as well as two iPhone 3G S models (16GB and 32GB).

The iPhone 3G is available in black and will be available free on all plans £35/month and up (24 months) although if you pay £30/month you can get the phone for £59. Full details of pricing available here. [Read more…]

Flexible Flash Memory Revealed

flexible-flash-memoryResearchers from the University of Tokyo have managed to create some flexible flash memory that can be rolled with a curvature of up to 6mm before the electronics break. To achieve this the researchers managed to put memory cells on to a polyethylene naphthalate sheet.

There are limitations though as the current prototypes and test units are only capable of storing data for about a day before the information degrades, however, it’s a step in the right direction that eventually will lead to some super slim memory modules that will be far easier to embed in to slim electronic gadgets. CheherryPal Launch $99 Netbook Called Africa

cherrypal-africa-01CherryPal have launched a new netbook called Africa. The real interesting thing here is that they are selling it for $99. For the $99 you get a 7 inch screen along with a 400 MHz processor, 256MB of RAM and 2GB of storage.

The Africa netbook runs either a Linux or Windows CE operating system and is designed with developing countries in mind allowing the digital divide to close up. [Read more…]

Google Phone Called Nexus One

Google-NexusOneLate last week, Google [GOOG] handed out new phones to some employees which some are calling the official Google Phone. The phone is actually called the Nexus One and runs the Android 2.1 operating system that offers a few enhancements over what the DROID uses, ie, Android 2.0.

The phone is similar in looks to the HTC Passion although it’s a little slimmer. For now, it runs on the T-Mobile network as well as using WiFi.

In Android 2.1 there are new 3D elements to be found in the app tray along with a new grid icon that can be used to get a preview of all the home screen pages (which also have been increased in number to allow for more icons to be stored). [Read more…]

Universal Apple iPod/iPhone Dock Patent Revealed

iPod-Dock-Patent-1A new patent for Apple [AAPL] has been published that gives details of a new universal docking station that is compatible with a number of devices that can be connected to it.

The system uses an elastic sponge-like material that conforms to the shape of the attached device meaning that special adapters are not needed to make the music players and phones compatible. By using this method for a dock it will allow you hassle free connections to any of your Apple devices. [Read more…]

Dell Android Tablet to be Revealed at CES 2010

dell-logoPocket-Lint has found out information saying that an Android based tablet device will be revealed at CES 2010 by Dell. The tablet will go head to head with a number of new tablets such as the JooJoo and Archos Internet Tablet.

The new device will sit between the size of a smartphone and a netbook with the screen size measuring 5 inches. The device from Dell will run the Android OS operating system and be launched sometime next year in the UK. It is expected that the Dell Tablet will be first revealed at CES 2010 in January. Fusion Garage JooJoo Revealed

joojooWe spoke about the CrunchPad last week and about what had happened between TechCrunch and Fusion Garage and their breakup so to speak. At that time we only had one side of the story from TechCrunch. Fusion Garage have now spoken regarding the issues and basically said that no contract was in place. Engadget have a run down of the webcast that was given by Fusion Garage and go in to some of the details although I guess we’ll never really know what happened.

The JooJoo (formally known as CrunchPad) was revealed briefly showing a tablet style device with a touchscreen that boots direct in to a browser in about 9 seconds. [Read more…]

HTC Portfolio for 1H 2010 Revealed

HTC-LegendOver on XDA developers there’s an interesting thread that reveals upcoming phones for the 1st half of next year. Included in the set of phones are five Android based phones along with three devices running Windows Phone. Pocketnow wonder why only 3 windows phone’s were only mentioned and suggest it could be related to a second half 2010 release of Windows Mobile 7.

From the XDA thread we read that HTC has four categories of phone which includes Design / Lifestyle, Social, Performance, Productivity.

Lifestyle

Two phones listed in this category which are the HTC Legend and HTC Salsa.

Social

The social category also brings two phones which are called the HTC Tide and HTC Buzz.

Performance

The performance category gets one phone called the HTC Bravo.

Productivity

The final category called Productivity gets three phones called the HTC Photon, HTC Trophy and HTC Tera. [Read more…]

Worlds Largest Milky Way Photo Unveiled

Space-ImageThe image shown here is a scaled down version of a photo measuring 37 meters in length and 1 meter tall around the edges. The picture was captured by the Spitzer Space Telescope and was put together with an impressive 800,000 individual photos taken by the Spitzer.

Stitched together the images captured show 2.5 billion infrared pixels… “It covers an area of the sky about as wide as a pointer finger and as long as the length of arms outstretched, which might sound small, but covers about half of the entire galaxy, says Robert Hurt, of the Spitzer Science Center at Caltech.” [Read more…]
