Motorola [MOT] has announced the Motorola MILESTONE XT720 for those of us in the UK.

The new Motorola MILESTONE has dropped the keyboard and also now includes hi-def recording and output. With the keyboard being dropped, the new MILESTONE is now slimmer than the previous version. It measures 10.9mm now compared to the 13.7mm when the keyboard was attached.

The operating system installed is Android 2.1 although Android 2.2 will be quickly made available after launch although it is unclear what quick means with Motorola. [Read more…]

The HTC EVO 4G launches today in the US. The new smartphone is capable of 10X the download speed of a 3G phone making it the quickest around today. Of course, that assumes you are in a 4G area under good network circumstances. However, the launch was hit with a slight snag in that some reports are saying that a problem with the 8GB microSD card that ships with the EVO 4G in that there is a permissions problem that won’t let users write data to the card.

‘It seems to be fairly widespread among those who received the phones, says Andy Y, an Evo user who has been in touch with Google and HTC tech support over his faulty Evo SD card. ‘It’s a troubling trend. He has posted extensively on an online Android forum about his experience, where he says about 20 people have complained of similar problems.

Motorola [MOT] and Verizon [VZ] have just announced that the Motorola DEVOUR is available to purchase online from the Verizon store. It is also available in store to buy costing $149.99 which is the price after the usual $100 mail in rebate as well as signing a 24 month contract with the wireless company.

The Motorola DEVOUR is an Android based phone that runs on a 3G network and happens to be the second Google [GOOG] Android device to hit Verizon.

The technical specs of the phone show that it has a 3.1 inch screen that’s capacitive touch. For storage it has an 8GB microSD card included. A full QWERTY keyboard slides out of the left side of the device allowing it to be used in landscape mode. BGR managed to get hold of some details related to the launch dates of the Motorola Devour. The Devour will be launching on February 25th on indirect channels at authorised distributors and the following month on March 15th to all channels. Pricing in this instance is not known due to Verizon (who will be the carrier) not listing prices on the leaked documents.

A number of sources have mentioned to BGR that the price point is expected to be $99 for the smartphone thoughwhich is not a bad price if it happens.

Motorola Devour Technical Details

The Motorola Devour has a 3.1 inch touchscreen that has a HVGA resolution displaying 320 x 480 pixels with 65K colours as well as a slide out QWERTY keyboard that slides out of the left side of the screen. For connectivity the Devour has Bluetooth v2.0+EDR and supports the usual headset, handsfree, stereo, phonebook and Audio/Visual remote control profiles. Verizon have officially announced that they will be offering the HTC DROID Eris and that it will be launched tomorrow on their network. The DROID Eris is another version of the HTC Hero and has a 3.2 inch capacitive touchscreen along with a 5 megapixel camera, EVDO Rev.A and it uses the HTC Sense user interface.

For storage the HTC Eris has a microSD card slot with an 8GB microSD card being provided in the box. The phone unfortunately does not run the Android 2.0 operating system which of course means it will lack the fancy new Google Maps Navigation that the Motorola DROID will be getting. [Read more…]

After a few months of rumours and leaks about the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 and it’s change of name from Rachael to X3 and finally to X10, it has now been officially unveiled. The new SE Android based phone runs a 1GHz Snapdragon processor built by Qualcomm and has a healthy 4 inch capacitive touchscreen display which isn’t quite the size of the HTC HD2, but is still quite a large screen to work with.

It runs the Rachael Android UI which we showed a little of yesterday that features a complete overhaul of the media menus and video playback. As well as the fast processor, large screen and nice UI the phone has an 8.1 megapixel camera although on the downside for now, the phone is a little choppy and the snapdragon processor seems to quickly kill the battery. Don’t be too worried about that though as the UI is a very early stage as the phone isn’t getting released for another few months yet. As well as confirming the white Galaxy S II today, Samsung has also confirmed the Samsung Galaxy R. The new smartphone is runs the Android 2.3 gingerbread operating system and has a 4.19 inch Super Clear LCD display. The resolution of the screen is 800 x 480 pixels.

We just found out today that the LG Optimus 2X is capable of capturing HD video at 1080p. The new smartphone captures the Full HD with an 8 megapixel camera (video sample below).

As well as being able to capture full HD it has a number of features that make it quite desirable. The operating system running on the X2 is Android 2.2 at the moment although an upgrade to Android 2.3 is expected shortly after launch. [Read more…]

More pictures of the HTC Thunderbolt 4G have been captured and put online just before the expected official announcement at CES 2011.

What has been learned from the hands-on with the HTC Thunderbolt 4G is firstly, that the battery seems very bad although that could potentially be fixed with a few software tweaks. We also learn that it has an ARM v7 processor with a Single Core running at 1GHz.

Other details show it has 8GB of internal memory along with the ability to add another 32GB to the device via a microSD card. The device has a 4.3 inch screen. [Read more…]
