The online only media wall features a massive 8 by 3 foot screen which works as your canvas. The canvas is multi touch allowing you and other people to work together on the wall dragging pictures around, zooming in to them. Also it is used for manipulating data. From the video demonstration we can see that the motion does seem quite smooth when loading, resizing and shifting images around. Although this is not a new idea as we have seen something similar before, I am still impressed with what it does. However, it will set you back around $100,000. Check out the movie over here.

RC Deadbolt for your Door
For around $30 you can build yourself a remote control deadbolt which comes in handy for a house door, garage door or shed door. It uses an X10 automation controller mixed with some solenoids and a metal bar. When you want to keep people out, just hit the button and you are locked in and safe. All I recommend now is that you wire up the bedroom lights to flash a couple of times and for the alarm to chirp as you hit the lock button when leaving your home.

Breaking the Zero Point – Levitation
By using 4 AA batteries, 1 CD, an empty Pepsi can, a playing card, tape roll and a dime you can make some kind of funky levitation device. From the information I can find, it uses discoveries found by John Hutchinson and the Casimir effect which according to sources, is related to resonance and physical forces between objects. I’m not even going to try understand all that as it isn’t the point of this post. Anyway, check out the video below and see the playing card and dime levitate before your eyes. If anyone can make on of these then feel free to post a video and I will post it here.

Ugly Hand Mouse
I came across one heck of an ugly mouse today. It’s a hand mouse which as the name suggests, it’s shaped like a hand. It appears to have two buttons (one on each fingernail maybe?) and be wired (probably USB). It looks almost authentic with the skin even sporting hairs. I have no idea if it feels like a hand to touch or if it’s hard plastic. Either way it ranks high on the freaky-o-meter. Also, check out them teeth underneath.

Wi-Fi Detector Shirt

This cool t-shirt has a wifi signal detector built in. When walking around the t-shirt will display the strength of wi-fi signals around you. This will save valuable minutes as it hunts for a signal for you. Once you see the signal bars increase you can then whip out the laptop and get working away. Too bad it doesn’t show the SSID’s and if WEP is enabled. It will detect 802.11b or 802.11g signals. Also the t-shirt is machine washable. Just make sure you take out the battery pack and screen before putting it through a spin cycle. 3 AAA batteries will power this beast for several hours.

37mm thick 42 inch LCD Screen

Over at CEATEC in Tokyo a 37mm thick JVC screen was unveiled. It’s a 42 inch LCD and extremely thin. Release date for this screen is Spring 2008 which is not too far away. For a demonstration check out the video after the jump.
eInk Keypad Phone

This phone is a COOL idea which uses eInk to create a keypad. The benefit of this is that eInk doesn’t require battery power except when changing what is on the key. This will allow the keypad to be changed and to be a screen but with out draining the resources of the battery. Things to hope for are tactile feed back from the keys as tapping on a touch screen can sometimes be frustrating and even more so, for sending text messages.

Moving Mannequin for Shop Windows

This mannequin is different to any other I have seen. It actually runs on the spot to demonstrate the clothing in motion. Several modes are available which can see the mannequin walk, jog, run and cycle. This is a one of a kind mannequin and would certainly grab attention of passers by. Costing £5639.98 you wont be buying this for your home.

360 Desktop

360 Desktop is a program which extends your Windows desktop beyond the limits of the screen. It allows for an almost unlimited sized desktop which allows for more room to spread out your work. Images can be used for the backdrop to allow for more of a panoramic effect which from the video demonstration, does look quite cool. To try and imagine how it works, just think of a big circle which your screen has access to a part of. Rotate it around to see various other parts. This is one tool to look out for.
For a full demonstration of what 360 Desktop is, check out the video below.

Mario and Duck Hunt Custom Cartridge Clock

This old 8-bit NES cartridge has been converted in to a wall clock. The idea is quite cool and has brass hands attached to a quartz motor which is then put inside the old Nintendo NES game. It costs $18 and mounts on to a recycled acrylic stand. I like this one!!!

French Bread Wrist Rest

The perfect type of wrist rest has to be French Bread. The baguette shaped wrist rest isn’t actually made of bread though. It is made from foam rubber which its size is ideal to keep your wrists comfortable while writing.
