A lot of you readers will have probably got hold of a plastic sword and made funny shooshing noises like a light saber from StarWars. Well, for those of you with a Mac and a Wiimote you are now in luck. When looking for a screen to wear you are often faced with some weird looking glasses for your face. Lumus-Optical seems like it could come to the rescue with the above prototype glasses. According to sources, the glasses feature a projector on the arm which projects the image on to the lens and gives what appears to be a 60 inch screen at 10 feet in front of you.

For those who love Dr Who, then you need to check this out. Firebox are now offering the Cyberman Replica Display Helmet which you can buy. Cybermen are another of Dr Who’s enemies along side the Daleks too. When all 3 are in a room it is sure to be a great episode to watch on the screen. The cyberman helmets are created from the original moulds used for the latest Dr Who series and are not low in quality. They are made of 11 seperate components and the majority are cast in cold aluminium resin which makes the helmet look as it did on the screen and also cold to touch. None of these helmets are the same due to how they are produced although you would have to have a keen eye to spot the differences.

The SolarPort is a mobile charger that gets it’s power from the sun. This is very handy for situations where you have no way of powering your device. It does take time to charge a device as it’s not got as much kick as a mains connection, but it can come in handy for those situations where you really need power. It’s about the size of a VHS video cassette and devices can connect via USB. There is an option for a generic connection for those devices not USB compatible.
The solarport costs 119 dollars and has a connection for charging rechargable AA batteries also. It can be set to charge at either 6v or 12v.

This video shows someone drilling through a laptop screen to see what happens. The visual effects it creates are prtty cool, although I wouldnt recommend you get a drill on to your laptop screen just yet, unless you really have some money to burn.

Advances in laser technology have now alowed 1TB of storage to be crammed on to a DVD. The read/write speeds also benefit from this too. It works with lasers that can work on multiple layers and sided discs. It’s a nice step forwards for DVD technology although I wonder how long DVD will be around with the advances in blu-ray discs which are happening. For those of you who are not familier with what 1TB is, it means terabyte which is 1000 gigabytes of information (which is a lot). This could store thousands and even millions of digital photographs.

With all the recent iPod hype around at the moment with the iPod phone, it seems like we are in for some good things from this company in 2007. RegHardware mentioned that Apple are planning 3 new models for next year and one of these will be a 16Gb flash memory player. A long awaited wide screen is in the pipe line (the video centric one).

Could the drive above mean that a 100Gb iPod is on it’s way? Toshiba have announced that a hard drive with 100Gb of capacity has now been made. The drive is 1.8 inches in size and looks very small. The iPod is currently running at 80Gb so it is possible that this could make it in to the latest iPods some time next year.

Samsung and SAIT have introduced the worlds smallest fuel cell charger. This is another great step forwards in fuel cell technology which is a great source of power for mobile users. The fuel cell charger is 5mm thich and small enough to be able to carry around and can provide power for your mobile should it run out of juice. The fuel cell works by using fuel and as long as you have a source of fuel then it will keep pumping out a steady 2W of electricity.
Fuel cell’s seem like they will be the way forwards. The fuel seems cheap enough and provides instant power when needed.

Nokia are launching 2 new phones in to the crowd for the talk and text type users. The Nokia 1325 and Nokia 1265 will be due out soon. These phones are targetted towards the users who use their phone for the basics which are talking and texting and will serve as entry level in to CDMA. The Nokia 1325 offers some great functionality in to it’s slim form factor. It has a 64k colour screen and can be personalised with wallpapers and be used hands free. The 1325 can store 400 contacts and 150 sms messages. It has a talk time of 3.5 hours with 6.5 days of standby time. It weighs 71g and should be available in China, Asia-Pacific, Middle East Africa and Latin America with in the next few months.
The Nokia 1265 has predictive text and 32 polyphonic MIDI capabilities. The screen is black and white and talk time is the same as the above which is 3.5 hours talk and 6.5 days of stand by. The basic features which seem to take us back 8 years (but with CDMA) will be more affordable and entry level type phones.

The Flying Alarm Clock is a genius device which makes getting out of bed pretty much mandatory. Getting out of bed is hard! I hate it myself. If you get the flying alarm clock then it will not shut up until you push the propellor back in to the top of it. The catch is that the propellor flys away to who knows where, and you have to find it to shut the thing up. Excellent idea… well maybe I best keep it quiet from my wife or I might find one under the tree for christmas. But… the idea is ingenious.

Insignia have created a cheap digital media player that costs just 119.99 dollars. It has 2Gb of storage and can play music and video for 20 hours. There seems to be a lot crammed in to this player and looks like an excellent choice for those on a tighter budget. Transfer between the PC and the player runs at USB 2.0 speeds.
