Some came up with the smart idea of making a carpet in to a Space Invaders game. Kind of crazy and could get annoying if a friend wanted to walk past to grab a drink.
The space invaders carpet works by projecting the space invaders from above on to the Persian rug as seen below.

Aving have reported on a security mirror which works as a monitor. When the power switched off, it looks like a regular mirror. The screen shots look nice and I can see this having a number of good uses.

iAudio have released this nice looking White U2 2Gb DAP player.
It sports sleek looks and comes in a tiny package. 2Gb is a nice size too for music on the go.

A Dutch inventor has made just that 🙂 Another item to go in the weird section although I would still have one. I would not pay $150K for it though.

South Korea is the first place to launch WiBro. WiBro is based on Intel’s WiMax technology and provides commercial versions of long range wireless networking.
The service is offered by SK Telecom and KT Corp and they will be responsible right now for providing broadband signals across Seoul. The range is around 1Km and can keep a connection up to 74MPH. The service starts at $17 and will work on a service charge depending on what usage you intend to make of it. The pricing looks rather reasonable compared to regular wifi over here in the UK.

This has to go in to the weird catagory for today 🙂 Researchers/scientists etc… have found that if you apply electricity to wood it slightly curves. They have known about this since the 50’s apparantly.
It works by coating paper with cellophane and then applying a microwave beam at it. The paper curves and then straightens once the beam is removed. It could have interesting uses such as flying paper? Maybe one day the govenrments will use this type of technology for surveillance.

TDK have created a 6x burn speed blu-ray disc. This is a great step forwards even though you still cannot buy a 6x writer as I write this. They are working towards 8 layer 200+Gb discs. Back to the write speeds though, 6x is a lot better then the current 5 oe so hours it takes to write a current disc. I expect that the hardware will soon be at 6x.

I never thought I would see this happen for a while. Someone has created a firmware downgrade from versions 2.5/2.6 to version 1.5. It is still in beta and parts are illegal (like the eboot file) so we do not endorse this at all. It is rather good news for the homebrew scene though.

Jabra have introduced the Bluetooth A125s bluetooth adapter.
It is compatible with both the Nano and Video version and offers 10 hours of playback and 250 hours of standby time. It should retail around the $75 mark but unfortunatly is not going to cut the cord on headphones unless BT compatibles ones are released like the Nike+iPod kit.

NEC have launched the LCD2070WNX. It’s a 20″ widescrreen LCD display.
It seems to be smaller then what other companies are offering this year. The panel features a USB 2.0 hub as well as height adjustment. It can run at 1680 x 1050 via Ambix which is basically their way of saying DVI. It’s around $450 or less.

The C1 UMPC is not really a UMPC. It’s a MicroPC just like the new Vaio UX although it kind of is a UMPC. Confused 🙂 I am. More details of how to get around this in your head are over at Engadget via the link below.
It runs XP and has a nice 8.4″ display. It runs at 1Ghz, has an 80Gb drive, 1Gb DDR RAM, PC Slot, 3 hour battery, Bluetooth, wireless (802.11b/g) and ethernet.

The new Sony Ericsson W810 is another mobile in the Walkman range of phones which I think are very good. It is the son of the W800 which was another excellent phone. The W810 improves on some of the bad parts of the W800 which were not that many. It has a new joystick and the mobile internet is changed. The colour of the phone is changed from White to Black. It is the familier Orange colour which we are used to seeing in this range of W phones.
A 512Mb memory card is included which is changeable for an even larger one. A downside is the slow USB connection to a PC. The cable is included but it doesnt perform how we would all expect. However, who really cares about the USB connection speed 🙂 I have never used it yet. Always use Bluetooth or a card reader.
