Will we live in the Clouds one day?
March 18, 2008

For those of you who watched Starwars back from the 70’s and 80’s, you will remember the city in the clouds named “Cloud City”. This was a floating city on a planet named Bespin. This concept named Cloud City could see people living in the clouds in pre-fabricated helium balloons. The idea came up after a design competition asked for people to come up with an idea for New York City if a disaster happened.
Studio Lindfors created the concept idea as “an uplifting experience that will allow communities to remain intact as they pull themselves out of the rubble.”. The homes are a series of airships which can be deployed above damaged areas. Each home can carry a family of 4 people, be inflated and secured by 4 workers in under an hour, and even be self sufficient in power as solar panels could be attached to the top. Three basic components are needed to make these work which include an inflatable bladder, rigid core and a metal/wood platform.
What would you think about living in the clouds while workers fixed the city after a disaster? Check out more pictures below to see more of this crazy but cool concept.
