Vonage on PSP

by Matthew Newill on April 11, 2007

A question keeps being asked around PSP sites which asks when will Vonage be available for the PSP? We all know the PSP is capable of handling VoIP as SOCOM uses it to communicate with other players in the online game. However, having a game of SOCOM is not always the easiest and quickest way to communicate with your friends. As we patiently wait for Vonage on PSP, we also came across a reference to Skype which was found in the decrypted 3.10 PSP firmware. The reference found was for skype_plugin which caught a number of peoples interest. The PSP GPS and PSP Camera references were found in earlier versions of decrypted code which leads us all to believe that skype_plugin could be related to a version of Skype in a future firmware upgrade. Sony must know that we all want Vonage on PSP, Skype on PSP and other VoIP apps to allow us to use it to talk with friends.

What makes the PSP more desireable is that it is something that gamers enjoy carrying around and with VoIP abilities it allows you to carry a small device around and make calls where ever there is a Wifi connection.

As this is all still very early stages I do not have any more details, but as soon as I find out more about VoIP on the PSP I will be sure to post it. If you still want some kind of VoIP now then go get your self over to Jajah as their VoIP service can be initiated from a PSP browser.
