Screen Excellence have created a new range of curved screens named VistaCurve. The screens come in various widths starting at 80″ going up to 160 inches wide. Aspect ratios vary from 1.78 to 2.37.
The VistaCurve screens are not actual displays though, but instead are woven fabric projection screens that are designed for both home and commercial markets. The screen material is Screen Excellences latest Enlightor 4K (EN4K) which is acoustically transparent. With the screens being so wide and curved it allows the viewer to be more immersed in the picture. The curve actually corresponds with the curve used on an anamorphic lens so that the image at the 2.37 ration is perfectly balanced.
Another major benefit of VistaCurve is its ability to eliminate the “audio hot-spotting” effect caused by solid vinyl or perforated vinyl, curved screens. Traditional solid or perforated vinyl curved screen becomes a large parabolic reflector in the room, thus focusing reflected acoustical energy into a narrow hot spot in the middle of the listening area. With VistaCurve, the audio passes right through the screen unabated and any reflected energy from the back wall of the theater can pass through the screen and be absorbed by acoustic treatment placed behind the screen.
The VistaCurve screens have a price tag starting at $5800.
