Tiny 2 Megapixel CMOS

200 Megapixel CMOS

Measuring just 1/4 inch, this certainly packs a lot of pixels into a tiny space

Sharp have created a 1/4 inch CMOS sensor for a camera. It is named the LZ0P39DS and according to the source has an output of 1600 x 1200 pixels. The small CMOS camera has auto focus and is small enough to fit in to a regular camera and small mobile phone. It will allow video to be captured at 15 frames per second.

The tiny camera will be able to be put in mobile phones and give some fairly good resolution in a small space. Hopefully some larger in pixel amount cameras will be available more soon as 2 megapixel is a but old for new mobile phones. But, due to its tiny size it does allow more freedom for mobile phone manufacturers.

The unit currently costs 5000 yen (about $40) and the company plan to produce 300,000 modules per month.
