For those familiar with sending text messages from a standard mobile phone you will probably have used the T9 dictionary sometimes known as predictive text. What T9 did was allow you to tap each number just once and as you spelled your word out it would then eventually get to the correct word. This helped speed up the process of text messaging as it required just 1 click per key rather then tapping the number 3 key three times to get an F.
