Scientists at a Tokyo University are making progress on Holograms that can provide tactile feedback to users touching them. By using ultrasonic waves and Wii Controllers, the system can let the holograms feel like you can touch them. It seems very similar, if not the same, to the demonstration of tactile holography we mentioned back in August as that system also used Wii Controllers and ultrasonic waves.
The Wii Controllers are used to track the position of your hand and then the ultrasonic waves create the feedback on your hand. Although still in it's infancy, the technology has a lot of potential with uses in many places being possible.
Examples of where a tactile hologram could be used are places such as hospital light switches that could prevent germs from spreading. It's a fantastic step forwards and potentially could be seen in a number of places.
