SunCats – Solar Powered Rechargeable Batteries

solar_batteriesThis idea is quite cool and definitely on par with the other idea of USB Batteries we mentioned a couple of years ago. This time we make way for the solar powered rechargeable batteries named SunCats.

These batteries are still in the prototype stage and do not work to their full potential. However, the idea is fantastic in that you just leave the batteries out in direct light and they quietly sit there and charge ready to be used at any time. The batteries are named SunCats and are a set of recycled NiMH rechargeable batteries with the outer skin taken off. Once that is done a flexible solar panel is built to size and wrapped around connecting to both ends of the battery.

As mentioned, they are still in very early stages and should the creators manage to get them to charge well and hold that charge well then I think they will be on to something big here.

With a capacitor and a way to bleed off excess charge these should work out great for smaller, travel items and the like.
