Sony PS3 1.60 Firmware Update

Sony PS3
Sony in Japan have announced that the newest firmware update will be available for the PS3 soon. The update will bring your firmware to version 1.60. The main new feature that stood out to me was the Folding@home client from Stanford university which allows you to donate your processing power to solving medical problems in a similar way to how your PC donated it’s processing power to finding ET life with SETI. It does make you wonder how much extra power will be consumed in your home with leaving the PS3 on though… but with the cause in mind I think it far outweighs the power consumption needed. The Folding@Home client will appear in the XMB (Cross media bar) and can be clicked on to launch it.

More features such as tighter security can be read over at the Sony JP site.
