Sony are to cut the price of the PlayStation 3 by $100 in the US as of today. So far the PS3 has not enjoyed the success of the PS1 and PS2 launch all them years ago. Hopefully the $100 price drop will help boost sales and make it more affordable to more users.

It will include a 60 GB hard drive and cost $500 which is $20 more then Microsofts most expensive XBox 360. I do not know as of yet if this price drop will come in to play around the UK and other parts of the world. Right now it seems to be just US only.

Sony have said that they managed to fix all their production issues and this has now put them in a position to pass the savings to consumers.

If you do not have a PS3 yet, would the $100 price drop change your mind? I personally will be waiting till they drop below the 200 GBP mark (about $400) before buying a 60GB version of the PlayStation 3.
