Sony Ericsson X1 Xperia Smartphone

September 4, 2008

sony-ericsson-xperia Sony Ericsson X1 Xperia SmartphoneBack in February this year Sony Ericsson announced a new phone which would be coming soon. The new phone from Sony Ericsson is named the X1 Xperia and it is a very nice looking smartphone. Several months later the release is looking like it will be very soon, as with in the next couple of weeks.

The Sony Ericsson X1 Xperia is a smartphone packed full of features. The first thing that will catch your attention is that it looks very sleek. On the front of the device is a 3 inch TFT touchscreen. Underneath, an Arc sliding QWERTY keyboard can be found (similar to the Tytn) which gives this device the edge due to the demand of real keyboards on phones. You will find the keys are nicely spaced allowing for those with so called “fat fingers” easily adapt to using it. The camera has a 3.15 megapixel CCD allowing it to capture relatively good shots. A-GPS is included along with handwriting recognition that is built in to the Windows Mobile OS that the X1 Xperia comes loaded with. On the connectivity side the phone is 3G allowing for video calls to take place and can also utilise Wi-fi networks. The phone weighs 146g which is 30g lighter then my current Tytn II phone. Claims from Sony Ericsson say that this phone can capture near DVD quality by making use of a dedicated video chip which will see recording done at an impressive 30 frames per second.

The design is different to other designs I have come across and I actually think it will do well. The case looks very sleek. With it having both a keyboard with and large touchscreen with the Windows Mobile OS, this is certainly a phone I will keep my eye on when my current TyTn II contract runs out.

More on the X1 Xperia technical specs…

400MB of internal memory can be found on this device with 256MB RAM and 512MB of storage memory. The Windows OS is the latest from Microsoft which includes the better internet browsing software as well as a sleeker interface.

Overall an impressive and well worth looking out for when the pricing is revealed any day now.
