Sony have officially announced the latest firmware for the PS3 numbered v3.10. In the new version of the firmware the software will allow you to connect your PS3 up to Facebook so that your newsfeed can be automatically updated. When logged in, the PS3 will automatically upload information of your latest scores.
By using the web-browser you can also continue to search Facebook and update it in the regular way along with twitter and various other social networking sites. [click to continue…]

A few weeks ago the XPERIA X10 was announced and at that time it was reported as being a bit sluggish in menu transitions and responsiveness in general. It seems like the new phone has had a firmware update though that has fixed all the problems.
With the phone coming in Feb 2010, there is still a bit more time for more tweaks although it seems the Android based phone is actually running ok now. [click to continue…]

A leak shows that Sony are to launch a new range of TV’s that will probably go on display at CES in 2010 in just a few weeks time. Amongst the new TV’s is a new OLED screen that is a new model from the XEL-1 that was a 3mm thick, 11 inch OLED screen launched last year. As of now it is unknown what size of screen the new OLED TV will be. I’d expect it to be a larger screen to perhaps compete with the new 15 inch LG OLED screen.
Also a new HDTV called the Sony KDL-XBR12 series has been mentioned that uses “high range advanced LED RGB” backlighting to function allowing for blacker blacks due to being able to dim certain parts of the screen individually. [click to continue…]

Just this morning we mentioned that the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 had been officially announced. After some hunting around on youtube we then came across a promo video showing the phone in action and how the interface works. The video shows an ultra smooth version of Rachael UI working and although pre-production models are a little more choppy, it’s still time for SE to iron out any bugs considering the phone wont be launched for another few months. Video after the break. [click to continue…]

After a few months of rumours and leaks about the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 and it’s change of name from Rachael to X3 and finally to X10, it has now been officially unveiled. The new SE Android based phone runs a 1GHz Snapdragon processor built by Qualcomm and has a healthy 4 inch capacitive touchscreen display which isn’t quite the size of the HTC HD2, but is still quite a large screen to work with.
It runs the Rachael Android UI which we showed a little of yesterday that features a complete overhaul of the media menus and video playback. As well as the fast processor, large screen and nice UI the phone has an 8.1 megapixel camera although on the downside for now, the phone is a little choppy and the snapdragon processor seems to quickly kill the battery. Don’t be too worried about that though as the UI is a very early stage as the phone isn’t getting released for another few months yet. We expect that when it is released the battery and choppy issues should be all sorted. [click to continue…]

A video of the Sony Ericsson Rachael UI was uploaded to Youtube recently showing off the new mediascape menu system for organising music, video and images. It appears that Sony Ericsson are working on their own Android media interface as the current Android one is a tad boring in my opinion.
It is currently believed that Rachael is the new Sony Ericsson X10 that will probably be announced on the 3rd November in just a few days time. Hopefully when the phone gets officially announced we can get a full look at what SE have done with Android and how much of it has been customised. [click to continue…]

Sony’s latest Alpha range of DSLR cameras was only refreshed a few months back in August. However, we are now to believe that a new Alpha DSLR camera could be launched soon.
Back in August a couple of models were release that were an A550 with a 14.2 megapixel sensor and an A850 that had a 24.6 megapixel sensor. The A750 is expected to get the balance just right between the two by having a 14.6 megapixel sensor along with full frame. [click to continue…]

Samsung have created a new colour e-paper display that measures 10.1 inches. Right now it’s just a prototype and it has a contrast ratio of just 10:1 making it not too clear at all. The screen also only has the ability to reproduce 7% of the NTSC colours. Yes, it could be a while before it goes in to production but it is a great step in the right direction.
Samsung aim to have the colour e-paper available in about 2 years time which will be about a year after PVI create colour displays for both Kindles and Sony Readers. [click to continue…]

Symbian have launched the Horizon App store that aims to compete against app stores already open by Android, BlackBerry, iPhone and Windows Mobile. The Horizon App store went live today along with the first 50 applications. Symbian also have plans to allow 1000’s more applications through the system next year.
The Symbian operating system is used on a lot of phones including many Nokia phones, Samsung, Sony Ericsson etc… and a lot of these companies already have started app stores. Nokia for example, has the Nokia Ovi store. Each of these app stores will support the new Horizon store and integrate offerings in to their stores. [click to continue…]

Sony Ericsson have launched a new page on their site called “whatsnext” which says “Sometimes there’s a thin line between the extraordinary and the magical. Did we cross it? Watch this space on November 3rd.”.
The page indicates a product launch that is more than likely going to be the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 android based phone.
The X10 was previously known as the X3 or Racheal and has a 1GHz Snapdragon processor along with an 8 megapixel camera, HSPA and large touchscreen. [click to continue…]

A few days ago we mentioned a new prototype screen built by Sony that could display a 360 degree image in 3D. It was unknown what this screen could be used for although a few examples of instore advertising were mentioned.
The prototype is only capable of displaying just a few thousand pixels so is nowhere near HD quality, but for uniqueness they have created something quite cool. [click to continue…]

We have mentioned the Sony Ericsson Xperia X3 a few times over the last month or so, but now we hear that it will probably be named the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 instead. The release date of the X10 is set to be February 2010 where it will be officially revealed just before at MWC 2010.
Although it will get revealed at MWC 2010, we might get some sort of official announcement in early November according to gsmarena. [click to continue…]

With the launch of Windows 7 being right around the corner, ie, this Thursday, Amazon is quickly building up a list of netbooks that will run the new operating system when launched. Each of the 28 (28 are featured, but there are more listed on the site) netbooks can be pre-ordered now. Included in the list are some of the best netbooks that are currently selling with Windows XP including the Asus Eee 1005HA that we reviewed a few weeks ago. That particular Eee PC is to be made available this Thursday costing $399 and will run Windows 7 Starter.
Other netbooks included in the list are the Acer Aspire One, Sony Vaio, HP Mini and Toshiba models to name a few. Prices range from $299 for the cheapest (the Gateway 10.1″ netbook) up to $499 for the most expensive. [click to continue…]

Sony are set to introduce a unique prototype 360 degree display this week at the Digital Contents Expo held in Tokyo this week.
The 360 degree display unit will measure 10.6 inches in height and have a diameter of 5.1 inches. As of yet, Sony do not seem to know what they want to achieve with this odd display prototype although it could potentially be used for signs in shops or as a different photo frame for the home or perhaps (in my opinion) used to sit next to your computer to display information in a unique way. Lots of mobile phone news today… Next up is the Sony Ericsson Xperia X3 that was just spotted live in the wild. The Sony Xperia X3 is an Android based phone that was first heard of a few months back.
Although the image is quite small and doesn’t really show that much details, it’s still good to see that the phone is actually getting nearer to production. It is also expected that both the X2 and X3 will be released at similar times as they run different operating systems. [click to continue…]
