PSP Touch Screen
Jube808, a PSP modder, has attached a touch screen to a Sony PSP allowing you to tap the screen rather then flick through letters on the keyboard with the D-pad. The screen works perfectly too as can be seen in the two video’s after the jump. [Read more…]
Cradle for Watching Movies and TV on your PSP
This new cradle for the PSP allows you to watch TV or movies while charging your PSP. The cradle includes a small remote control allowing you to change channel and flick between movies. Does anybody actually watch a PSP at anything more then arms length away though? I guess it does make it easier then flicking through menu’s, so we can let them off in this instance. [Read more…]
Is Sony releasing a Touch Screen PSP?
A patent was recently given to Sony which states “hand-held [sic] device with touchscreen and digital tactile pixels”. The patent isn’t too clear on what this type of screen will be used for, but guesses would lead you to believe either a new Sony PSP 2.0 or a PSP phone maybe. A good number of potential uses are listed in the patent which include gaming devices, phones, portable media players, web browsing device and navigation. [Read more…]
Glow in the Dark PSP
Have you ever lost your PSP in the dark? If so, maybe you wished it could glow. It can now with these replacement covers. The XCM Magic Night Glow cases attach to the front of your PSP (slim version only) and as slipperybrick put it “Glow like a nuclear accident”. [Read more…]
PSP Hackers releasing 3.71

A reverse engineered version of the 3.71 Sony firmware has been released by team M33. Rather then me try to summarise the changes made it would be worth you checking out Krizka who has a rundown of all the features and what it all does. Krizka also mentions that Dark_Alex is behind all this who some of you might be aware of him supposedly leaving the scene earlier this year. Homebrew just couldnt keep him away 😉
Sony-Ericsson PSP Concept

Over the last year I have heard a couple of rumors floating about regarding the Sony PSP mobile phone. Currently the ideas are just concept which has inspired the picture above to be created. As can be seen it takes the current Sony Ericsson square looking type phone and includes a large screen and controlls. I am not sure if this concept or any concept will go ahead for the PSP phone, but we can hope for it. The idea could do real well if a cybershot camera, walkman type phone and PSP could be crammed in to the same package. All it would then need is wireless and VoIP and all would be perfect.

Custom PSP Touchscreen

The PSP has been subject to a number of mods and hacks over the last couple of years. Most of it (if not all) has been down to software and the running of homebrew software. The latest hack is the PSP touchscreen which was created over at Spark Fun Electronics. The PSP touchscreen is a layer that sits above the screen which senses when it is touched. Match this up with an interface and you have a fully fledged touch screen PSP. The screen overlay touchscreen costs just $23.95. There is no mention of compatible software yet and I am sure some kind of homebrew will need to be used to make use of it. Hopefully we will see something soon.

PSP 1Seg TV Tuner Coming Soon

Sony are about to launch a 1Seg TV tuner for the Sony PSP. The new TV tuner will not work with your old PSP though as it is designed for the new PSP 2 slimmer version. Unfortunately this TV tuner will not make it to the US in this form although hopefully a regular TV tuner might make it over this way. With it being 1Seg it uses mobile data broadcasting available in Japan. It will be released on September 20th and will cost $57. This is also the release date of the PSP slim edition.

Slim PSP Announced

The new slimmer PSP is due to be released September this year. Sony have not dropped the UMD and the screen is still the same size at 4.3 inches. However it is 30% lighter and 19% slimmer which is good news. Along with it shrinking a little in size some cool little features have been added. Load time has been improved for games and also there is a video output which you can hook your PSP up to a TV/projector. When playing games, music, or video you can push a button to toggle between the large or small screen. I am interested in seeing what quality of games are like on a large screen. Hopefully they look just as good as they do on the small screen.
The slim PSP will be available in 2 colours which are Piano Black and Ice Silver. The entertainment pack will include a 1GB memory stick duo, daxter (what ever that is), Family Guy collection and it will set you back $199.

Download your PSP Games – Almost
Download Sony PSP Games Legally in the future
How would you like to be able to download games for the PSP rather then purchasing the UMD from a shop? It seems like this is the way Sony is moving with the latest firmware releases for the Sony PSP. Both 3.50 and 3.51 versions were opened up and found to contain a module named np9660.prx which is an official ISO loader made by Sony which can load encrypted ISO files from a memory stick. Also you might be aware of a new download service that is being made available by Sony later this year. This could mean that PSP games will be downloadable in the future, hopefully cutting costs and increasing load times with them working right from your memory stick.
Memory sticks were quite small in capacity a few years back when the PSP was launched, but in the last few months we have seen some nice capacity memory sticks which should allow for several games to be stored on them.
This is only rumor at the moment, but with finding the module in the firmware it is a good indication of what could be available in the next few months.

Upgrade your PSP Firmware for faster Processor

When the PSP was launched the specs stated that it had a 333MHz clock, but many people also noticed it was actually running at 266MHz. The reason for this according to some was that the battery life couldnt cope with the increased clock speed and would die too quick. The latest firmware which will be due out soon is set to remove this restriction so that games can be coded to work at 333MHz. If you are a regular uses of home brew and particularly the GTA games you will have noticed that you could speed up those to run at 333MHz and although it isnt a huge jump, the increased frame rate was noticeable making it run a lot smoother.
