Over the last few weeks rumours of an event by Apple [AAPL] have been floating around with some people believing that the Apple iSlate would be making an appearance at this event. Official confirmation has now come through saying that an event will be held on January 27.

At the moment Apple have just said that the event is being held to show off their "latest creation" with no indication of what that creation might be.

The event is to take place at the Yerba Buena Center for Arts Theater in San Francisco at 10am pacific time at which point all rumours of an iSlate or a tablet device will be proved true or a pile of rubbish. [click to continue…]

Another Apple [AAPL] rumour hit late last night, this time from quite a credible source who hasn't let BGR down in the past. The rumour is in relation to the Apple iSlate again. This time the source claims that the tablet is to basically be an iPhone on steroids and includes multi-touch gestures that were described as being "out of control".

As well as hearing about the beefed up iPhone side of things the device is to be powered by an ARM CPU that runs incredibly fast. The kernel from the iPhone is used on the iSlate and it has a model number of K48AP (an internal name). [click to continue…]

We are still no closer to really understanding if an Apple iSlate or Tablet will be launched by Apple [AAPL], but with an announcement coming up on January 27 the rumours still keep coming. Rather than provide a new rumour this cool infographic was created that basically summarises everything rumoured so far along with the likeliness of the rumour actually happening. The small image above shows all the rumours listed, but is posted larger below to make it easier to read.

Items included on the list show a unique user interface, different from the iPhone. A front facing camera, OLED screen, price of about $1,000 USD, to be called the iSlate as well as several more. [click to continue…]

I was hoping that rumours were coming to an end today after the crazy Apple 4G rumour we posted this morning, but unluckily I came across another about the Apple iSlate again. This time an unknown source has told TG Daily that Apple have purchased all available supplies of 10.1 inch LCD and OLED multi-touch displays for an upcoming device.

"We were designing a product for a customer and we needed 10 inch screens, but we've been trying for months and can't get one from any of the Asian suppliers," an anonymous designer for a firm wishing to remain nameless told TG Daily.

In an interview held Monday Stephane Richard, the deputy chief executive of Orange, kind of confirmed that an Apple [AAPL] iSlate, or tablet, is on it's way sometime soon. The conversation has been translated in to English and says the following...

Jean Pierre Elkabbach (interviewer): "According to the weekly Le Point, in a few days your partner Apple will launch a Tablet with a webcam"

St©phane Richard: "Yes"

Jean Pierre Elkabbach: "Will the users of Orange benefit of it to"

St©phane Richard, "Sure! They will, with the webcam it will indeed be transmitted image in real time. We'll update this in a way videophone we saw a few years ago, and again, the network size and network quality that we put in place to serve the French will allow the new uses to develop everywhere. A new patent was published yesterday morning that shows an insight what Apple could be coming up with for the next few months. The title of the image above indicates that the next gen iPhone could have an advanced touchscreen. Also the patent indicates that iPod Touch and MacBooks as well as a MacBook tablet device are also to be included in this.

'Apple's patent generally relates to displays having pixels that include capacitive elements, and more particularly to displays in which capacitive elements of the pixels that form part of the display system that generates an image on the display also form part of a touch sensing system that senses touch events on or near the display."

We have heard on a weekly basis about Apple [AAPL] building a tablet device probably to be called the Apple iSlate. What we haven't heard much about is Microsoft [MSFT] creating a tablet other than a couple of mentions of the Microsoft Courier a few months ago that's more of a split screen booklet rather than a tablet. What we hear today though is that Steve Ballmer will be unveiling a tablet at CES during his keynote speech.

If this happens it will come weeks before a rumoured unveiling of Apple's iSlate which could either be a good or a bad thing. If done right then it wont be another "me-too" type device and hopefully this is the case. [click to continue…]

If $1,000 for a rumoured Apple iSlate is too much for you to eat then you could check out this way cheaper tablet from Freescale. Several Freescale tablets are being made with some of them having a sub $200 price tag. The tablets will be powered by ARM Cortex Chips and will run either Android or Linux.

The tablets are set to launch in the summer of this year and Freescale will include wi-fi, Bluetooth and have an onscreen QWERTY keyboard as well as a physical separate QWERTY keyboard. [click to continue…]

AllThingsD are reporting that Apple [AAPL] are set to announce something big on January 27. The event has been described as being "on and it's going to be a big deal".

The event will be held at the Yerba Buena Centre for the Arts in San Francisco and it is expected that the iSlate will be announced at this event although nothing has been confirmed if it is or is not the device that will be mentioned.

Other information found over at The Wall Street Journal mentions that the iSlate (or whatever Apple choose as the name) will be shipped in March with either a 10 or 11 inch touch-screen and will cost around $1,000 which could possibly include a 3G data plan to allow you to be online at all times. PhoneArena have posted a copy of a letter headed with the Apple [AAPL] logo that supposedly shows the specs of the rumoured iSlate device.

Features mentioned about the iSlate include a new operating system called Mac OS X Clouded Leopard that suggests the iSlate will be cloud based. Bullet points on the image show that it has a new user interface, a widget based homescreen, connectivity to the app store, 2x faster wakeup and shutdown speeds (compared to what I am not sure), and built in support for Microsoft Exchange Server. Apple iSlate Concept

by Matthew Newill on January 4, 2010

The Apple iSlate concept drawing was created by Rodolphe Desmare and shows what the Apple iSlate should look like. The concept drawing shows the tablet device as having a large 10 inch screen with no bezel and no buttons.

As the whole idea of a tablet is to have a screen to work with we can understand fully why no physical buttons on the front surface would be needed or wanted. If a "home button" was to be found then they could tuck it away on the side of the device or just create an onscreen close all button. [click to continue…]

Tablets are getting a lot of mention these last months with mentions of the JooJoo and the Apple iSlate recently. Of course Google can't be left behind in all the fun and information has now leaked saying that both Google and HTC are working together (for the last 18 months) on a Google Chrome OS tablet device.

The source actually mentions that Google have collaborated with HTC on a few test models with one of them running Chrome OS and perhaps the others running Android. [click to continue…]
