The BlueSLR app for iPhone/iPad is created by a company called XEquals. What the app does is allows your iPad, iPhone or iPod touch to remote control your Nikon DSLR camera (Canon support to be added soon).

To get the app working you need to purchase the blueSLR bluetooth camera connector. There are two models available with one being compatible with the D70, D3100, D5000 and D7000 while the other model is compatoble with the D3(S), D200, D300(S) and D700. Price wise, the bluetooth connector costs $149. Once you have the BT connector you can then download the camera control app for free from the App Store. [click to continue…]

We are still unclear exactly how Apple will launch AirPrint in iOS 4.2. At the moment, the last we heard was that shared printers are now not supported and the only way to print from the iPad, iPhone or iPod touch is to print to one of ten AirPrint compatible wireless HP printers.

If this continues to be the case then you might want to test out AirPrintHacktivator that manages to re-enable the service. To get it to work you'll need a Mac along with the latest Max OS X 10.6.5 as well as iOS 4.2 GM of course. [click to continue…]

When using earphones, it can be particularly dangerous when outside noise is blocked out. This is even more the case when using earphones that isolate noise.

The Awareness app has been built for the iPhone and is designed to work in the background of your iOS 4 device. What it does is use the microphone to track ambient noise levels. When you first load up the app, you are presented with a meter. The iPhone app measures the surrounding noise and sets a default level for the environment you are in.

When you are walking down the street for example and a loud noise occurs above the standard level, such as a truck passing or a car horn, the application lets the noise through to the earphones so you can hear the external noise. [click to continue…]

Interesting information can be found whilst looking at patents filed. The latest we came across today comes from Apple [AAPL] that reveals plans for an accessory transceiver. The accessory transceiver could be used in the iPod touch which would effectively give it the ability to make phone calls and receive text messages.

It is believed that the device could act like the Peel case we wrote about a while back that you basically put your iPod inside to give it a mobile phone signal.

The device is not intended for just the iPod though and could potentially be used for the iPhone its self. You're probably wondering at this point, why you'd want to add mobile phone functionality to a mobile phone... well, Apple also indicate that CDMA could be part of the device which would mean you could then use your iPhone on a different network to a GSM network. Nike has created a new Nike+ app for the iPhone and iPod touch that lets users track their running progress without using the external sensor attached to a shoe.

The new app called Nike+ GPS is compatible with the iPhone 4, 3GS and the iPod touch 2nd gen through 4th gen. Of course the iPod touch doesn't have a GPS sensor. For those with a touch, you'll be restricted to tracking runs through the accelerometer which means you wont get maps of your run (unless you have an external GPS case). [click to continue…]

iPod touch 4 Case Leaks

by Matthew Newill on September 1, 2010

The iPod touch 4 might be announced today at the Apple [AAPL] event that is happening in a couple of hours time.

A new iPod touch 4 case has launched which further strengthens these rumours of an iPod touch 4. This time the case is from a mainstream case maker.

The iPod touch 4 is expected to be very similar to the iPhone 4 in that it is expected that it will have two cameras, perhaps a glass front and back and be capable of making FaceTime calls via email activation. [click to continue…]

Rumours about an iPod touch 4 have been going around for a while now. A number of leaks of the screen with a front facing camera have been published on the web along with iOS details that indicate the next gen iPod touch 4 will get email activated FaceTime calling abilities.

The next detail shows an iPod touch 4 case that has a cut out for a camera on the back that is slightly wider indicating that a flash will also be included.

Some design changes to the new device could include getting rid of the curved back and replacing it with a flat back. [click to continue…]

The tPhone is similar to the Peel 520 in that it attempts to convert your iPod touch in to an iPhone.

The tPhone makes your iPod touch in to an iPhone so that it can make and receive calls as well as send and receive texts messages.

It is said to have a better design and finish to the Peel 520, but essentially achieves the same goal in terms of what it is used for. [click to continue…]

The Apple Peel 520 case is designed for the iPod touch and has been designed to turn the iPod touch in to an iPhone. The case of course is not an official Apple [AAPL] product and from what we have heard, it isn't 100% perfect, but it does allow you to put a SIM card inside the case and make calls from the iPod touch.

Price wise, it will set you back about $57 when it launches although the product reviewed over at PCOnline is a prototype as the final models are not ready for launch just yet. [click to continue…]

Apple [AAPL] could be launching a new iPod touch 4 in the next month or so. The reason for this belief is that a photo illustration of an iPod touch 4 in a case has been revealed that indicates a new version with a camera is coming.

What happens here is that Apple send out technical specs (as in CAD details) to those companies who will be making cases. The drawings don't show the device in details other than sizes of each part. With this information it appears that a company has created a mockup of what a case and iPod touch within that case will look like.

It's hard to make out exactly what's happening in the render, but it appears that "if" the iPod represents a new device then it will keep the curved back rather than a glass back of the iPhone 4. We also see the addition of a camera and possibly a flash also which is one of the wanted features on the device. [click to continue…]

Yesterday saw a pretty big launch in terms of OS upgrades. iOS 4 was introduced for iPhone 3G, 3GS as well as newer gen iPod Touch devices.

The 3GS managed to get all the features working but the 3G lacks a few things. One of the big ones was multitasking which we have known about for a long time. Another feature is backgrounds. This is one that a number of people couldn't figure out as it is thought that using backgrounds wouldn't require much from the iPhone 3G.

A Gizmodo reader called Erica decided to ask the top man himself, Steve Jobs at Apple [AAPL] about why this is the case... [click to continue…]

Earlier today a new series of HP email-able printers were mentioned. No specific details were given other than that they could have email addresses where you simply email the printer what you need printing.

HP has now launched the official announcement of the service including details of how the system works and what you will be able to do with the new printers. The new printers are called HP ePrint. The HP ePrint is web-connected and cloud aware.

What web-connected and cloud aware means is that you can access your printer from anywhere in the world. Documents can be stored in the cloud and printed when needed. Also the printers can connect up to services such as msnbc.com and automatically print out today's news stories. [click to continue…]
