Apple TV Teardown

The next generation (2nd gen) Apple TV started shipping in the last few days. iFixit of course, managed to get it's hands on one and has already taken it apart to see what exactly goes on inside.

The new Apple TV is far smaller than the original version that launched a few years ago. It runs iOS and is based around streaming content rather than storing content locally on internal memory.

Interesting information found about the Apple TV when tearing it down reveal that it has 256MB RAM just like the new iPod touch and iPad. The device also uses the same A4 processor package as is found in the iPad. [click to continue…]

Archos is releasing a 10.1 inch Android OS based tablet. The 10.1 inch tablet joins a few other tables ranging from a 2.8 inch screen size up to the larger 10.1 inch screen.

The 10.1 inch Archos tablet is the one designed to tackle the iPad. Spec wise, it has a 16:9 aspect ratio screen, a metal frame to make it rigid, runs Android 2.2 Froyo and gives access to 5,000 apps in the market.

Memory capacity for the $300 model is 8GB while the larger capacity 16GB model will cost $350 when launched. [click to continue…]

Motorola has announced that the DROID 2 will be heading to Europe as the Motorola MILESTONE 2, like the Motorola DEFY, it will also be "enhanced" with MOTOBLUR. Unfortunately.

The MILESTONE 2 will launch with Android 2.2 installed which also allows for Adobe Flash 10.1 to be run in the browser. The CPU on the MILESTONE 2 is 1GHz and the device features the same slide out keyboard as the DROID 2. Essentially, it's the same phone but branded slightly different for whatever reason.

Features of the Motorola MILESTONE 2 include the 3G mobile hotspot capabilities that allows for up to five wireless devices to connect up and share the 3G connection. [click to continue…]

FusionGarage has provided a new update for the JooJoo tablet. The new update brings the JooJoo up to version 0.2.4.

New in version 0.2.4 is the ability for the JooJoo to remember passwords such as Twitter, Facebook and others. When previously logging in to a site, closing it down and re-opening it, you had to re enter your password. Now you don't.

The Tablet Dune has been revealed. This tablet is a Windows 7 Slate that has been spotted over in Belgium.

Technical specs reveal that it has a 10.2 inch screen (no details of resolution are known yet), and that it runs on an Intel Atom N450 processor that is clocked at 1.67Ghz. Memory wise it has 2GB of DDR 2 and Intel Integrated Graphics are also included.

For storage it has a 160GB 2.5 inch hard drive. There is also plenty of connectivity with wireless 802.11a/b/g/n as well as Bluetooth and optional 3G. A 1.3 megapixel webcam can also be found on the device. [click to continue…]

Microsoft [MSFT] has confirmed that the Xbox 360 slim 250GB hard drive is now available. The drive can be used as a replacement for the rather small 4GB Xbox 360 S that launched a few weeks ago.

The new 250GB hard drive actually went on sale a little early at GameStop.com although we hear that it is now available through various retail channels as of today. [click to continue…]

A new technology has been developed that lets you easily capture the surrounding area as a 3D model that you can navigate around.

The device comes in the form of a backpack that is loaded with several sensors and cameras that capture a building as you walk through it. Textures are captured with a camera and the 3D model is created from other sensors.

The company envisage that the whole world will be available in 3D if this backpack can be created and used. [click to continue…]

FlashRods are 1/18th scale model sports cars that house a mini USB port mixed in with the chrome of the bumpers/exhausts as well as pack in a small 2.5 inch portable hard drive inside.

About 20 models are available from an Audi R8 to a Nissan GTR. As well as choosing from 20 or so different models, several colours can also be chosen which includes silver, red, black as well as yellow and blue.

There's already an app available for the Apple iPad that lets you use the iPad as a second monitor wirelessly for a Mac. The version for the Mac is called Air Display and although there's talk of a Windows version, it hasn't happened yet.

MaxiVista is an app for the iPad that allows you to use the iPad as a secondary monitor for Windows based PC's. The iPad screen can have windows dragged on to it as well as play video, view Skype messages and whatever you want to use on the second screen.
