We heard yesterday that Google [GOOG] was planning on launching Chrome OS this fall. When launched the OS will be made available as a download.
We also learn today that the first Chrome OS netbook will also be available also in the fall. News is VERY sketchy at the moment though. The information doesn't come as a big surprise though as we already know Google has detailed the requirements for a Chrome OS netbook. The big question is who will be the first. Digitimes believes Acer will be first to launch a Google Chrome OS netbook in the fall. We had heard rumours just a few weeks back that Acer would be showing off the first Chrome OS netbook at Computex this week, but Acer responded saying it was incorrect information. The Asus Eee PC 701 is a netbook that launched a couple of years ago. It had a 7 inch screen when launched and kick started the netbook scene to what it is today.
This particular Asus Eee 701 has been modded and changed in to a tablet form factor. The guy responsible goes by the name of McG and took the Eee apart, made a few modifications inside and put it back together.
Since everything did work well, he went ahead and began to use it for the function it was originally designed for: to read eBooks, watching movies made by DVD Shrink, and to use as a portable media player. In case you would want to mod your EeePC, you could also choose better Touchscreen drivers with 90 deg, 180 deg and 270 orientations.

ASUS has announced two new netbooks called the ASUS Eee 1015P and the 1015PE. Each are fairly standard netbooks running the usual Intel Atom N450 processor. The screens on each device measure 10.1 inches and are backlit by LED. The resolution is 1024x600 pixels.
What makes the ASUS Eee 10015P/PE stand-out most though is the impressive 13.5 hour battery life that each model can achieve. Of course the tests that get 13.5 hours will be fairly easy going, but what a 13.5 hour battery life on an easy run means that with WiFi, full brightness and intensive applications you should still get a good 10 hours of usage on a single charge.
Each of the netbooks run Windows 7 Starter for the OS and both netbooks can connect up to Eee storage for an extra 500GB to store files on-line. [click to continue…]
We first heard of the ASUS Eee 1215N a few weeks back where only a few details were known such as it running an Intel Atom N500 dual-core processor along with an ION GPU and NVIDIA Optimus. The dual-core N500 CPU will run at 1.5GHz.
We are now hearing a few more details about this 12 inch netbook/notepad that show it will have automatic graphics switching along with a full HD output of 1080p.
By using automatic switching it allows the netbook to increase graphics capabilities on the fly and as and when needed and then pull back to conserve power when the requirements on-screen are less. [click to continue…]
ASUS are always creating new netbooks in their Eee range. Some we know about that are coming soon include the ASUS Eee 1015, 1215 and 1218 although we haven't heard anything on pricing till now.
From what we hear these particular netbooks are heading to Taiwan and will have prices ranging from $478 to $605 USD. The higher than average prices are due to what is found inside each of these netbooks.
The latter two netbooks (ASUS 1215 and ASUS 1218) are both 12 inch screened devices which pushes them in to notebook territory. Each has next-gen NVIDIA ION graphics. The smaller 10 inch screen model (the ASUS 1015) is also believed to run NVIDIA ION graphics although from what we hear, it will run a less capable version of the ION platform. [click to continue…]
