Samsung 10.2″ Photo Frame/USB Monitor

samsung-usb-photoframe-monitorUSB Monitors are great as they just connect up to your USB port and away you go. There are no special video cards that need installing as it's all software based. Samsung have just built a new digital photo frame that can connect to a PC via USB. When connected you can either keep the frame to display photos, or use it as a small second monitor. What the second monitor is useful for is tasks like monitoring email, messenger services etc... The small 10.2" screen is ideal for smaller tasks that can be taken away from using up work space on your main screen.

The new photo frame is named the SPF-105P digital photo frame and it has a fairly good resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels. From the information we can gather it appears that the USB cable is just used for transmitting the video/data and a separate battery or power supply is used to keep the thing powered.

The frame uses a rechargeable battery so it doesn't need to be plugged into the wall and has 1GB of internal memory for storing photos. The display has 300 cd/m2 brightness and a contrast ratio of 500:1. The frame measures 11.37" x 7.81" x 1.8" and weighs 2.18 pounds.

I really like the Samsung SPF-105P. I’ve wanted a digital photo frame for a long time. Unfortunately, it’s not cheap (well, no wonder, with that resolution and display),. It costs about 180 euros.

I really like the look of this dual functioning photo frame, and the bigger the better as far as I am concerned.
Has anyone actually viewed any pictures on it, if so what are they like?
    Regards
    Jeff.

I haven’t viewed images on one of these frames so I am not sure on the quality compared to other frames. With it being used for connection to a PC as a second monitor, you would hope that images are crystal clear.

I just saw one today. Pictures look great on it. However, using it as a second monitor may be a non-starter. The refresh rate is pretty darn slow, causing a lot of blur when moving the mouse or doing other functions on this display.

I was wondering if anyone has tried to play a film on this? im interested in using it in an exhibition at the end of the year

I was wondering if there’s a way to speed up refresh rate when PhotoFrame is used as mini Monitor, because now there’s a significant latency compared to real monitor.
