Portable USB RAID Mirror

portable usb raid Portable USB RAID MirrorRAID systems are amazingly good at keeping your data safe (in most cases). A number of combinations can be used as RAID comes in several versions which can use 2 or more drives to keep your data safe. The Portable USB RAID mirror uses 2 drives in which both drives keep an exact copy of your data. Should one of the portable drives fail, you can still access your data on the other drive. When you replace the broken drive the data is then replicated back to the new drive.

The ACARD ARS-2212 accommodates two 2.5″ SATA drives which both connect to a hardware RAID chipset (RAID 1). If safe data doesn’t interest you then you can just opt to see the drives as separate drives. The casing measures 163 x 16 x 163 mm which is a fairly decent size considering there are 2 drives in there.

When connecting the drives to your computer the software is installed automatically and requires no reboot much like other USB flash drives or external hard drives install.

The only downside of this device is that it needs external power to run. Had it been powered by the USB 2.0 port it would have been the perfect mobile storage solution.

The portable RAID USB drive costs $69 which we assume is just for the enclosure.
